Industry-First Product/Service Package Ensures 24-Hour
Availability of Mission-Critical Data and Applications
Legato Systems(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:LGTO), the leader in enterprise storage management software, today introduced the first complete solution that enables information continuance for Microsoft Exchange environments. The solution is designed to save enterprise customers both time and money as it simplifies the process for purchasing data protection and high availability products and services in Microsoft Exchange environments.
Legato's Solution for Microsoft Exchange offers the integrated technology of Legato NetWorker(R) and Legato NetWorker Module for Microsoft Exchange for backup and recovery and Legato Co-StandbyServer(R) for NT for high availability. This solution further bundles in technical support and professional services, which includes installation, testing, configuration and training of the product components. By purchasing this combination of products and services as a solution package, customers will save as much as 25 percent off the total cost when compared to purchasing the individual list items.
"Existing and future Legato customers will benefit from bundling products with services that make sense for a specific environment," said Glenn Gabriel Ben-Yosef, president and CEO, Clear Thinking Research, Inc. in Boston. "Starting off with a solution for Microsoft Exchange shows that Legato is on the right track."
In addition to simplifying customers' purchasing process, this solution also offers them peace of mind by protecting critical Microsoft Exchange data. It also provides high-availability of a Microsoft Exchange server and its applications in the event that a server malfunctions and shuts down, operations will fail over to another server.
"Our strategy for delivering solutions that encompass both products and services is new to the market in which we operate," said Paul J.J. Payack, vice president, worldwide marketing, Legato Systems. "We are simplifying the purchasing process by reducing the number of decisions a customer must make: from deciding which product or technology will meet their data protection and availability needs to what type of service and level of support they require for their particular environment or application," added Payack.
Legato's Solution for Microsoft Exchange is one of several packaged solutions Legato plans to introduce this year, designed to provide 24-hour application uptime and advanced data protection in a single packaged offering to solve business critical problems, such as ensuring uptime of a company's e-mail servers.
Pricing and Availability
The solutions are available immediately from Legato and authorized resellers. Prices will vary depending on the number of Microsoft Exchange servers required. Introductory prices start at $46,194 for a two Exchange server environment. The new solutions package scales to the needs of customer configurations and is available for two, four or 10 Exchange Server environments.

About Legato NetWorker, Legato NetWorker Module for Microsoft Exchange and Legato Co-Standby Server for NT
Legato NetWorker helps organizations easily protect vast amounts of critical distributed data by offering heterogeneous platform support, automated media handling, interoperable tape format, data stream parallelism, remote tape management, and automatic integration with the popular storage management frameworks in the network environment. Legato NetWorker offers "state-of-the-art" data protection, making it the most flexible and scalable solution available.
The Legato NetWorker Module for Microsoft Exchange Server provides fast, on-line backup and recovery of Microsoft Exchange data in Windows NT and Windows 2000 environments. The Legato NetWorker Module performs full, incremental, differential, and copy backups of Exchange Information Store and Directory databases to a local or "over-the-wire" centralized backup server. For additional granularity, individual mailboxes can also be backed up and restored.
Legato Co-StandbyServer for Windows NT is the most advanced high availability product on the market for complete and reliable application monitoring and failover. Legato's high-speed block-level mirroring engine ensures data integrity with a known state of data on both servers. The product automatically checks and repairs services running within NT applications by attempting to restore a faulty application to avoid a full server switchover. If a server switchover is necessary, Co-StandbyServer migrates applications, data and users to the surviving server to keep users productive.
