Deloitte & Touche and Deloitte Consulting to fund nation's first

master's program in e-commerce

Deloitte & Touche and Deloitte Consulting, recognized leaders in e-Business consulting, and Carnegie Mellon University today announced the first Deloitte Chair for e-Business. Turning down competitive offers from several universities, Tridas Mukhopadhyay accepted this position with hopes of working directly with thought-leaders at Deloitte to enhance Carnegie Mellon's position as a leader in e-commerce education.

The chair recognizes the existing Master of Science in Electronic Commerce program under Carnegie Mellon's Graduate School of Industrial Administration and the School of Computer Science. As the head of this program and the Deloitte e-Business chair, Mukhopadhyay drives the nation's first e-commerce master's program. He is planning to prepare students for the new economy through course study in areas such as Internet marketing, software development, Web page design, networks and security, electronic payments systems, Internet technology, business-to-business transactions and the law of the Internet.

The Deloitte & Touche foundation and principals and employees of Deloitte & Touche and Deloitte Consulting are in the process of contributing to fund the e-commerce program, recruitment and Mukhopadhyay's research. In fundraising for the program, the Deloitte & Touche foundation matched every contribution, 2 to 1.

"The Deloitte Chair for e-Business builds recognition for our faculty and for our strong relationship with such an outstanding consulting company," said Douglas Dunn, dean of Carnegie Mellon's Graduate School of Industrial Administration. "Tridas is a great choice. He has shown true leadership in creating the new masters program in e-commerce and has worked with companies like Deloitte to develop real world projects that have made Carnegie Mellon a leader in e-commerce education."

"We are thrilled at the chance to work so closely with such an experienced professor and university," said Paul Wellener, principal with Deloitte Consulting. "We are committed to making this opportunity work for our e-Business practice, our clients and the students of Carnegie Mellon. We see this as an opportunity to help form the minds that will run the new economy - and possibly recruit a few graduates in the process."
