SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 14, 2000
SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK), the world's leading flash memory card provider, announced today that Nike, Inc. has selected SanDisk to supply flash memory MultiMediaCards for its new Nike PSA Play 120 portable digital audio player. The Nike PSA Play 120 will include a slot for a flash memory MultiMediaCard.
The PSA Play 120 is targeted at the athletic market. Because the player and the SanDisk flash memory card are solid-state designs (no moving parts), music and spoken audio will not skip, even during the most grueling of workouts.
Nelson Chan, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for San Disk, said, "Nike, a world class sports and fitness firm, is creating a new and lucrative market--digital audio players for athletically inclined consumers. As the world's largest flash memory card provider, SanDisk is delighted to reach out to a new consumer audience. The SanDisk MultiMediaCard will give consumers the ability to add large amounts of musical play time in a very small form factor."
The Nike PSA Play 120 includes a refined feature set and ergonomic design for ease of use and sport utility. Built into the player are 64 megabytes (MB) of embedded flash memory, which will provide 120 minutes of digital music with the ability to add capacity through the memory expansion slot. A fully functional, wearable remote control with a dot matrix LCD will also be included. Nike plans to develop a line of clothing based on the PSA Play120 that will include such extras as pockets designed specifically for the audio player.
SanDisk Corporation, the world's largest supplier of flash data storage products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data, digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, CA.
