go2 Systems Inc., originator of go2(R), the leading location-based directory and information services system designed for the Internet and wireless devices, Monday announced that Steve Johnson, former AOL vice president, has joined the company's board of directors. Johnson brings his extensive technology experience and Internet relationships to go2.

"go2 has been able to bring outstanding talent with varying areas of expertise to our board," said Lee Hancock, founder and president of go2 Systems Inc. "Steve Johnson adds a new dimension and tremendous knowledge and experience in the Internet from both a technological and business perspective."

Johnson is a co-founder and the chief executive officer at Sage Hill Partners, a Boston-based venture capital firm that specializes in investing and advising early-stage Internet companies. "go2 has a compelling location-based directory service, industry leading technology, and impressive distribution through Sprint, Verizon, Nextel and several other unannounced wireless carriers. I believe they have the vision, technology and lead to become the dominant enabler and provider of location-based services for online and mobile applications across all platforms," said Johnson. "I am excited to help go2 continue its accomplishments."

In 1991, Johnson founded and co-chaired Johnson-Grace Co., a company that created image, sound and video compression technology. Additional responsibilities at AOL included leading the development of AOL 4.0, "You've Got Pictures," and telephony and broadcast products. He was AOL's lead technology negotiator and implementer of the AOL/Netscape merger and the related AOL/Sun/iPlanet strategic alliance.

Johnson holds an Economics degree from University of Southern California and a master's degree from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Johnson will sit on the go2 Systems' board of directors with other influential members including financial and venture capital veterans Walter Cruttenden and Steven Ledger, restaurant industry leader John Martin, Cendant Internet executive Samuel Katz and business-to-business broadband executive Joe Russell.
