DataMirror Corporation (TSE: DMC), a leading provider of e-Business data integration and resiliency solutions, today announced the introduction of enhanced change data capture technology for its Transformation Server for Oracle software.
Transformation Server for Oracle now includes an exclusive change data capture utility designed to achieve accelerated replication performance by further improving the process used to capture changes applied to publication databases on UNIX or Windows NT servers. This enhanced utility replaces the existing process currently used in Transformation Server for Oracle so that data capture and replication activities are performed at a significantly faster rate.
"In performance testing conducted at DataMirror headquarters in Toronto, we found that the new change data capture process accelerated the time it takes to capture Oracle database changes on Solaris systems by 300 percent," said Kirk Dixon, Executive Vice President, Development and Support. "This enhancement to DataMirror's innovative capture, transform and flow (CTF) data integration technology is a significant breakthrough for e-Business implementations where immediate real-time data access and integration is critical to maintaining customer loyalty. We believe that the benefits of this new CTF technology will be even greater when the database is under a heavy workload in large production or e-Business environments."
The ability to continuously capture database changes from multiple computing systems as they occur is also essential for real-time or active data warehousing. Companies are no longer content to base business decisions on day-old or week-old data. They demand a real-time flow of data across their business. This is only possible through the use of high performance real-time capture, transform and flow tools like Transformation Server.
"Some e-Businesses need to make decisions hourly based on data warehouse content that is refreshed non-stop," said Philip Russom, Director of Business Intelligence at Hurwitz Group. "For instance, a merchandising manager may look at product movement or customer behavior during the last hour on an e-Commerce web site, then decide which promotions to run during the next hour. You can't turn your e-Business on a dime this way without the zero-latency of information that change data capture brings to real-time data warehousing."
The enhanced change data capture technology will be integrated into the next major release of Transformation Server for Oracle available later this year. For current Transformation Server for Oracle customers, the enhancement is available today for download as an interim release so that enhanced overall replication performance can be experienced immediately. Available via the Internet
Fully functional versions of Transformation Server are available for download via the Internet by visiting www.datamirror.com/trialsoftware. Pricing is custom quoted based on computing environment. For more information, please contact a DataMirror representative at 1 (800) 362-5955.
