EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 22, 2000
IntraNet Solutions(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: INRS), a leading provider of end-to-end Web content management solutions for the enterprise, today announced the integration of its Outside In(R) viewing technology with Compaq's iPAQ Home Internet Appliance. Through the Outside In integration, iPAQ customers can view native files on Web sites or email attachments on their iPAQ Web terminal without running the native application.
Compaq's iPAQ Home Internet Appliance features Microsoft's MSN(TM) Companion service, which provides consumers fast, easy access to Internet browsing and e-mail. IntraNet Solutions' Outside In Active X control for the Windows CE operating system provides instant viewing access to information created in standard business documents, and the technology's support of Windows CE enables mobile and appliance devices automatic access to business documents sent via email. Used together, the Outside In technology provides views to a wide variety of file formats - such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Word Perfect - on the iPAQ without needing the native application to be installed. The technology is transparent to the user, with a simple mouse click providing a view of the document while continuing the easy-to-use experience for the user.
"With IntraNet Solutions' technology, Compaq is able to offer a greatly expanded set of viewable email attached documents on the iPAQ Home Internet Appliance announced last week," said Jim Ganthier, director and general manager of Compaq's Inter-Connected Products team. "This capability sets the iPAQ appliance apart from the competition and offers customers flexibility previously only available on a PC."
"The iPAQ Home Internet Appliance offers the benefits of email communication and Web access to a segment of the population previously limited by the expense and complexity of personal computers," said Scott Norder, president of the Information Exchange Division of IntraNet Solutions. "The integration of the Outside In technology into the iPAQ product completes the promise of full email and Web functionality by providing access to information contained in file formats not supported by the streamlined appliance. This agreement solidifies our strategy of enabling information access everywhere, from the largest enterprise server product to an efficient Internet appliance."
