SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 2000
Network Appliance, Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content management solutions, today joined the Content Alliance as a principal member. Other members in the Content Alliance include Cable & Wireless, Cisco, Digital Broadband, Digital Island, Exodus, Genuity, Mirror Image, NaviSite, PSINet, ServInt, and Storage Networks. The Content Alliance is designed to enable the seamless sharing of content from participating service providers and content delivery networks (CDNs) around the world. This sharing is known as content peering. It allows customers to extend their networks' reach and scope and make their content distribution truly global.
Network Appliance is the only company offering both storage networking solutions as well as caching appliances for management and delivery of content from the data center to the edge. This "end-to-end" approach leverages open protocols such as those the Content Alliance has formed to deliver.
"By working closely with others in the industry to standardize open approaches to content distribution, Network Appliance ensures its products continue to offer industry-leading features and functionality," said Chris Liotta, senior vice president and general manager of the content distribution business unit at Network Appliance, Inc. "This will allow customers to confidently deploy Network Appliance(TM) solutions and gain the power of shared content from anywhere in the world regardless of other technologies and networks deployed."
More details on the Content Alliance can be found in a separate press release issued earlier today by Cisco Systems.
About Network Appliance
Network Appliance, Inc., a veteran in network file serving and caching, has been providing data access solutions since 1992, and is a member of both the S P 500 and NASDAQ 100 index. Major corporations and ISPs, including Lycos, Yahoo!, Citicorp Securities, Siemens, Lockheed, Cisco, Motorola, and Texas Instruments have deployed NetApp(R) solutions. NetApp Internet caching solutions (NetCache(TM) appliances) and file servers (filers) deliver fast, simple, reliable, and cost-effective access to network-stored data and enable simultaneous shared file services for UNIX(R), Windows NT(R), and the World Wide Web.
The company pioneered the concept of the "network appliance," an extension of the industry trend toward dedicated, specialized products that perform a single function. Network Appliance filers and NetCache appliances are based on the company's innovative data access software known as the Data ONTAP(TM) operating system and standards-compliant hardware.
