SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 29, 2000

Corel Corporation (Nasdaq:CORL) (TSE:COR.) is pleased to announce that Bryce(R) 4 users can now update their world-famous terrain-generation and animation software to version 4.1.

A free download of Bryce 4.1 is now available at http://www.corel.com/support/downloads/index.htm.

This upgrade demonstrates Corel's commitment to developing and furthering the impressive capabilities of Bryce 4 for its dedicated graphic artists, designers, animators, Web designers and game developers. As well as enhancements to existing features, Bryce 4.1 will have new features that give a taste of what's to come in Bryce(R) 5, scheduled for release early next year.

"We are delivering on our promise to release a free update for Bryce by the end of the summer and reaffirming our commitment to Mac users," said Ian LeGrow, vice-president, creative products at Corel Corporation. "It's one of many updates and upgrades planned for our new graphics product lines - Bryce, KPT, KPT Vector Effects and Corel Painter. These are truly cutting-edge applications which have a loyal following of creative graphics professionals worldwide. We are thrilled to offer our users additional support for their creative efforts."

Enhancements in version 4.1 include the following new mapping modes: Sinusoidal, World Front, World Side, World Cubic and Object Cubic. In addition, game developers will benefit from the new Microsoft(R) X (DirectX 3D) file import and export support. A brand new feature added to Bryce 4.1 is the Custom Starfield Map. Until now, the starfields in Bryce were only randomly generated. Now a Custom Starfield Map can be used, which represents the stars visible from earth.

"Bryce provides a creative experience that is rewarding to both novice and power user," said Susan A. Kitchens, co-author of the upcoming book, Real World Bryce 4. "I think it touches something primal in we humans: the software and a computer give us the ability to make landscapes that echo the environment that is home to our species. To see mountains and sky and water emerge on a computer screen is nothing short of magic."

Since Corel's acquisition of Bryce, KPT(R), KPT Vector Effects(R) and Corel Painter(TM) last spring, the company has already released one update to Corel Painter. A beta preview of the Corel Painter 6.1 update will be available for existing Corel Painter and MetaCreations Painter(TM) users in the coming weeks. To see a demonstration of Bryce 4.1, please visit Corel's booth (#613) in the South Hall or visit the company's Design Studio booth (# 4442) in the North Hall.
