SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 29, 2000
Identix Inc. (AMEX:IDX), a worldwide leader in providing user authentication, security and identification solutions, Tuesday announced the first installation of BioLogon(TM) at an Internet Cafe to secure customer Internet access and usage.
CyberHouse in Bergen, Norway, opened in August 2000 with BioLogon installed throughout its network to enroll cafe visitors with their credit information for easy, secure Internet access without passwords.
BioLogon is a fifth-generation software product from Identix designed to secure IT applications with fingerprint authentication data. BioLogon extends user and administrative security over applications, files, buttons, features, encryption options for documents and e-mail, and network accesses.
CyberHouse anticipates that BioLogon will manage thousands of transactions monthly for user authentication and secure credit transactions. To use CyberHouse's facilities and surf the Internet, visitors register fingerprint data and credit information one time only. Repeat visits do not require new enrollment, since BioLogon maintains the fingerprint data and registration.
"Europe is a leader in employing biometric user authentication security," said Grant Evans, vice president of Identix's Security division. "The adoption of BioLogon by CyberHouse is a perfect example of the convenience and use of biometrics as a solution to manage security both locally and throughout the Web transaction processes for Internet users around the world."
CyberHouse has equipped its network of PCs with high-speed Internet access, secured by BioLogon software and stand-alone desktop biometric readers from Key Tronic.
BioLogon controls enrollment, credit authorizations, Internet access and other features for CyberHouse customers, eliminating the user burden of remembering and typing multiple passwords. BioLogon provides CyberHouse an easy management tool for both credit and user tracking, while offering user flexibility in a system that otherwise would be vulnerable to fraud, since passwords can be forgotten, lost or stolen.
Identix distributor Henaco of Norway sold CyberHouse the BioLogon security solution as an alternative to managing password or other security databases for the cafe.
Marius Soerlle, general manager of Henaco, commented: "BioLogon offers incomparable security and user management for a busy operation which must manage multiple users daily and thousands of users monthly. With BioLogon, CyberHouse can easily track usage, which enables them to offer a one-time enrollment with associated credit information to encourage frequent use with easy Internet access and automatic billing. Risk factors would be prohibitive with a security tool other than BioLogon."
Evans continued: "Our optical technology and our algorithms have been repeatedly proven over many years in government, law enforcement and physical access environments. Internet and IT security now demand the same consistent and resilient performance. We believe BioLogon meets these demands with proven capability to manage security for multiple thousands, even millions, of users from a single reader in a secure database of fingerprint characteristics.
"The selection of BioLogon by CyberHouse is an excellent example of the robustness and extreme flexibility of BioLogon for multiple Internet and IT applications, and illustrates the importance of positive user authentication in a mass environment."
CyberHouse marketing manager Boerge Sjursen said: "BioLogon's ease-of-use, secure access and its many other benefits for network management can be readily experienced at our cafe. To date, all of our customers have been impressed with the security, flexibility and ease-of-use provided by BioLogon."
BioLogon, the award-winning solution for robust network user authentication, inherently supports multi-factor authentication in any combination of biometric, smart card, PIN or password. BioLogon solutions are available in products from Compaq, Key Tronic, Cherry and SCM Micro. For more details or for purchase visit www.identix.com.
