GlobalCenter and Sun Leverage Expertise and Industry Relationships To
Expand Services For Total Solutions
Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW), an industry leader in network computing and Internet technologies, and GlobalCenter Inc., a Global Crossing Ltd. (NASDAQ: GBLX) subsidiary and a leading Internet services company, today announced a strategic agreement in which the companies intend to combine efforts and expertise that will enable GlobalCenter to identify and deliver services designed specifically for the media and entertainment industry. This combined effort includes marketing and technology development initiatives. The agreement is based on a non-binding memorandum of understanding and is subject to the negotiation and close of a definitive agreement.
As part of the agreement, GlobalCenter intends to designate Sun as one of its preferred platform providers for services critical to the media and entertainment industry, including storage, software products and server-based solutions. In turn, Sun intends to designate GlobalCenter as a premier provider for these advanced solutions for the media and entertainment industry. The new services would be available through GlobalCenter's sales organization.
"This agreement with Sun strengthens our position as a preferred provider of Internet solutions for the media and entertainment industry. We are dedicated to providing the services, products, infrastructure and performance necessary for these companies to succeed in the new economy," said Leo Hindery, Jr., chairman and CEO of GlobalCenter. "Sun's network computing platform is the logical choice to provide the specialized infrastructure required for entertainment and media services."
"Working together, Sun and GlobalCenter can ease the impact of radical technology shifts on the media and entertainment world and allow companies to stick to their core business," said Ed Zander, president and chief operating officer of Sun Microsystems, Inc. "GlobalCenter understands the unique technology needs of the media and entertainment industry. Using Sun servers, storage and software as the foundation, they can provide a suite of services so these companies can focus on creating content, and not worry about how to manage, store or deliver it over the net."
The agreement builds on GlobalCenter's existing relationship with Sun as an Elite Service Provider. GlobalCenter is also one of the initial members of the SunTone(SM) Certification and Branding Program, one of the industry's first collaborative efforts to define and audit service provider infrastructure, operational practices, and ultimately, overall service delivery to provide the highest levels of performance, security, availability and uptime. GlobalCenter is among the first companies to receive SunTone Certification for its hosting services, allowing GlobalCenter to offer customers a certified reliable, scalable environment.
GlobalCenter's services integrate the latest technology into an outsourcing model that specializes in the four elements critical for e-businesses to succeed in the new economy: connectivity, data centers, on-demand Internet applications and professional services. These services offer GlobalCenter customers reliability, cost-effectiveness, faster time to market advantages and economies in outsourcing, significantly reducing total cost-of-ownership with less capital and fewer internal IT staff requirements.
