Edward E. Penhoet Named to Board of Directors, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals; New Director Dean of UCB School of Public Health

Edward E. Penhoet, Ph.D., has accepted an invitation to join the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals' Board of Directors, effective immediately.
Dr. Penhoet is the current Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also a Professor of Health Policy and Management at UC Berkeley, as well as Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology.
"Dr. Penhoet's background in biochemisty and biology, his expertise in public policy and management and the depth of experience he brings as former president and Chief Executive Officer of Chiron Corporation will bring a fresh and unique perspective to our Board," says Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals' Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr. David M. Lawrence. "Today's health care industry faces significant challenges, and we believe Dr. Penhoet will help provide answers to those challenges."
Dr. Penhoet was born in Oakland, and has received numerous awards for his work as a scholar, entreprenuer and lecturer. He is or has been a member of the Governor's Biotechnology Council, the National Research Council Commission on Life Sciences, the NIH Economic Roundtable on Biomedical Research and the National Science Foundation National Visiting Committee. He has chaired the California Healthcare Institute and the NIH Forum on Sponsored Research Agreements.
