DUBLIN, IRELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 2000
Entrust Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTU), a global leader in solutions that bring trust to e-business, today announced that, Entropy, the Entrust Technologies' distributor in Ireland, has signed a commercial agreement with the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland (CCI) to provide security services to the Irish business community.
This will enable any business to secure online transactions so customers can trust that their personal information such as credit card numbers is protected.
The agreement involves the introduction of ChamberSecure, which will provide authentication and validation of companies transacting business online. It has been designed to encourage increased participation in the Internet economy by member companies through a trusted verification process for Irish companies that wish to conduct business online. The secure PKI software for this solution will be provided by Entrust Technologies.
Commenting on today's announcement Entropy Managing Director, Conall Lavery, said that the commercial agreement is a significant one for the rapidly growing company as it provides Entropy with direct access to the 11,000 member organizations of the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland. He also stated that it is likely to lead to a rapid increase in the use of e-commerce by Ireland's small and medium sized enterprises, which will have a positive effect for the economy in general.
"By introducing an off-the-shelf security solution to the SME sector it is likely that we will see a huge increase in the number of companies that are conducting real business online. It has long been accepted that security related issues are ones that have impeded the growth in participation of small and medium sized companies in the e-business environment. The deal that has been brokered between Entropy and the CCI will remove this barrier and should result in increased participation statistics within a relatively short period of time.
"Entropy is delighted to partner with CCI in the delivery of this solution and look forward to growing our relationship with Chambers and its members over the coming months," he added.
Mr. Simon Nugent, Chief Executive, Chambers of Commerce of Ireland said, "The role of the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland is to create an environment for our members where they can grow and flourish. A priority for us in this regard is to create the right environment for Irish businesses to engage in e-commerce. This involves securing the trading environment through the provision of security solutions for our members and increasing access to enabling technologies.
"It is imperative that companies are confident that their information and that of their customers is secure and private. The ChamberSecure product offered by the CCI and Entropy through Entrust.net will provide the confidence needed and will result in growing numbers of our members conducting business online."
"We are extremely pleased with the success Entropy has achieved distributing Entrust security infrastructure solutions in Ireland," said Colin Wyatt, vice president, EMEA, Entrust Technologies. "Entropy is a prime example of the top quality of organization that Entrust Technologies seeks to work with as we expand our global reach."
