SANTA CRUZ, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 2000
Lutris Technologies Inc., a leading open source enterprise software and services company, today announced a licensing partnership with Pixo, Inc., a leading developer of software and services for wireless phones. Under the terms of the agreement, Pixo's Internet Microbrowser will be integrated with Lutris Enhydra 3.5 to assist developers worldwide in building applications for wireless devices. The partnership provides a robust solution to developers worldwide using Lutris Enhydra 3.5, the first application server with native support for compact HTML (cHTML).
As a result of the relationship, Independent Software Vendors [ISVs], Systems Integrators [SIs] and Value Added Resellers [VARs] will have access to a platform for building and deploying applications for cHTML devices such as those used on the NTT DoCoMo iMode network. Lutris will incorporate Pixo's Internet Microbrowser, which offers both HTML and cHTML support, into Lutris Enhydra 3.5, the latest commercial release of the Java/XML open source application server. To assist developers building wireless applications for delivery to Japanese market and other cHTML networks, Lutris Enhydra 3.5 will also include sample cHTML applications. Given its success in Japan, cHTML has become the leading language for wireless Internet support.
"Japan's iMode phenomenon is based on the incredible diversity of the 22,000 Web sites and applications accessible to the iMode devices. Our aim is to provide our global community of developers with the ability to extend their Enhydra applications to reach the more than 15 million end users in this market and beyond, and do so in a manageable, extensible fashion," said Yancy Lind, president and CEO, Lutris Technologies. "Lutris Enhydra 3.5 is the first application server with native support for cHTML, and by including the Pixo Internet Microbrowser, we will accelerate the time-to-market for Enhydra application developers targeting these devices. Through our partnership with Pixo, we successfully provide an integrated platform for serving the largest wireless Internet population on the planet."
"Our partnership with Lutris represents an important step in accelerating the worldwide development of wireless Internet content based on open Internet standards, including cHTML," said Dave Rothschild, president and CEO of Pixo. "Using these open standards, Pixo and Lutris will enable fast and easy development of wireless content as well as additional revenue streams for wireless operators around the globe."
The agreement brings the rapid application building capabilities of Lutris Enhydra 3.5 Java/XML application server to developers who want to use open standards to provide direct access to Internet servers and wireless carrier portal sites. In turn, developers are now able to preview these applications through the cHTML support of the Pixo Internet Microbrowser. Lutris has also extended its wireless training capabilities to include the Pixo software platform, providing developers with the training and know-how to deliver content to all manner of devices running Pixo's software.
