NORTH CANTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 21, 2000
Community Credit Union has become the first credit union in Texas to offer Diebold's RemoteTeller(TM) System (RTS) to its members at in-store bank branches.
Community Credit Union has opened two in-store branches in Albertson's grocery stores in Carrollton and Lewisville, Texas, the first of 12 planned for Greater Dallas. All of the in-store branches will feature Diebold's RemoteTeller System, a walk-up banking unit that connects customers to a remotely located teller via pneumatic tube technology and two-way video conferencing.
"We set out to do things differently in these in-store branches, to set us apart from all other financial institutions," explains Richard Asel, vice president of in-store branches at Community Credit Union. "Through advanced technology, we're able to be more efficient and do more for our members."
Diebold, a pioneer in branch automation, self-service, and electronic security solutions, developed the RemoteTeller System by combining video conferencing technology with the pneumatic tubing commonly used in drive-up teller lanes. Two-way audio/video communication provides personal interaction between teller and customer, while the tube system facilitates the physical exchange of documents and cash. Extended wall panels on RemoteTeller stations and a telephone handset give customers privacy. In the three years since Diebold developed and introduced the RemoteTeller System, the company has installed more than 600 stations at 210 different sites in six countries.
"The RemoteTeller System addresses two critical issues in banking today: efficiency and customer service," says Diebold's Randolph C. Benore, director of product management and planning for Physical Security and Facility Products. "Using this technology, Community Credit Union is able to complete teller transactions quicker and devote more time to servicing their members."
The RemoteTeller System allows a teller to serve two customers at once -- significantly reducing "wait time" during transactions. This allows the credit union to staff its grocery store branches with fewer tellers and more sales associates, who can meet face-to-face with customers to offer a full range of deposit accounts, mortgages, and personal and business loans.
"Diebold's RemoteTeller units have allowed us to control personnel costs and still provide quality service," says Gary Base, president of Community Credit Union. "Our members have accepted this new method of completing their financial transactions without complaint."
In addition to teller service, one-on-one assistance from sales associates, and a concierge who helps direct and guide members, Community Credit Union's new grocery store branches also offer computer access for Internet banking and a 24-hour automated teller machine (ATM).
"Community Credit Union is really on the forefront of customer service and branch design today," says Benore. "With everything from advanced teller service to one-on-one customer service to ATM and Internet access, they have truly created the in-store `branch of the future.'"
With more than 155,000 members and $813 million in assets, Community Credit Union is federally insured through the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The credit union serves members in 57 cities throughout the Greater Dallas metroplex. Membership is open to families who live or work within one of the 57 cities.
