"It's no easy task selecting appropriate companies for this honor, and the job seems to get more difficult with each passing year," admitted Rich Tehrani, TMC president and group editor-in-chief for INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine. "While there are a number of companies who have appeared on our annual list in the past, there are a tremendous number of newcomers. But a single thread binds all of these companies together, and that is their commitment to quality, constant innovation, and their dedication to keeping this industry moving forward."
The INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year award honors companies and products that have distinguished themselves as truly the best of the best in IP telephony. Each winner offers a cornerstone product that now serves as the standard for the industry.
Added Greg Galitzine, editorial director for INTERNET TELEPHONY, "It's rather incredible to note that an industry as young as ours has advanced so far into the mainstream in such a short time. When two years ago we were touting the state-of-the-art of a two-line VoIP gateway board, this year's list includes IP telephony service providers who claim over 11 million registered users; gateways and routers that can achieve throughput in the terabit range; and IP-based switches that are classified as Class 5 switch replacements. Not bad for two years of hard work."
Winners were selected based on a year-long process involving briefings at trade shows, discussions during on-site visits, interviews supplementing research for magazine articles, hands-on tests and demos, and, finally, a thorough review of formally submitted Product of The Year applications. The January issue of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine is due to publish on January 8, 2001. A complete list of winners will also be available on that date at the INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine Web site www.itmag.com.
