MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BW HealthWire)--Dec. 5, 2000
FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ:FONR), The Patient-Friendly(TM) MRI Company, reported on its marketing presentation at this year's meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), held at McCormick Place in Chicago from November 26 through December 1.
The Company's RSNA presentation featured a high-energy live show that ran hourly. Six actors, supported by creative sound, lighting and visual effects, invited the audience to "Step Into the Future of MRI" with them as they toured an imaginary hospital facility that housed the FONAR Seven, the Company's full line of MRI products. The featured product, Indomitable(TM) - the Stand-Up MRI(TM), was mounted on a car-size turntable. For demonstration purposes, the turntable separated the two magnetic poles of the scanner so that the audience could clearly see how the scanner's special patient- positioning system can easily place a patient not only in any conventional lie-down position, but in a host of upright, weight-bearing positions as well.
At noon each day, FONAR hosted a very well-received presentation of the "First Clinical Results of Positional MRI (pMRI)," by Professor J. Randy Jinkins, State University of New York (Brooklyn). An open forum for radiologists followed, which was supported by Professor Francis Smith, Grampian University Hospitals, Aberdeen, Scotland; and Professor William G. Bradley, University of California (Irvine).
During the RSNA, the Company announced another sale of its Indomitable(TM), the Stand-Up MRI(TM), this one to an independent scanning center in Texas. Dr. Damadian, president and founder of FONAR, said, "We focused on Indomitable(TM) at this year's show. I'm pleased to report that we saw a great deal of customer interest in this product, especially in the light of Dr. Jinkins findings and the enthusiastic response from the attending physicians. I think it's safe to say that our manufacturing division is in for a very busy year." On August 2, 2000 General Electric and FONAR announced an agreement whereby General Electric will sell and distribute FONAR's Stand-Up MRI(TM). The FDA granted FONAR permission to market Indomitable(TM) this past October.
The Company had three new product entries. It introduced the mpExtremty MRI(TM), a works-in-progress unit that enables both weight- and non-weight-bearing scanning of the extremities, such as knees, ankles, feet, etc. A 0.6 Tesla, permanent magnet scanner, it is designed for in-office applications.
The Company displayed 1.0 Tesla high-field images acquired on an Open MRI, demonstrating the suitability of the Company's fundamental Open MRI design for high- field applications.
FONAR introduced, for the first time in the industry, its capability to completely monitor, control or diagnose an MRI scanner remotely with a laptop over the internet.
