SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 2000
Activate (Nasdaq:CMGI), a digital media services company, today emerged as the top winner in Network World's Streaming Media Review.
Activate was given the "Blue Ribbon" award for "network performance and a well-polished proposal" and special recognition for their on-demand applications performance.
Participants in the Network World study, conducted by Christine Perey of Perey Research & Consulting, together with Network World's editors, included Activate, Digital Island, iBeam and Yahoo Broadcast. Akamai started the review, but chose to withdraw from the evaluation.
Businesses spent $600 million to $700 million in 1999 for products to enable streaming media, according to Perey Research & Consulting. That figure is expected to rise to about $4 billion by 2003. The study focused on the best provider of live-event broadcasting services, and the best for on-demand applications including hosting, content delivery and management.
"We are thrilled to receive a blue ribbon award from Network World and honored to be recognized in a competition which included such a prestigious group," said Activate's CEO and founder Jeff Schrock. "Since 1997, Activate has successfully signed up leading ebusiness companies as customers, built a world-class network, hired top-notch Internet professionals and secured funding from CMGI. The recognition is a testament to our momentum in the digital media space as this award comes on the heels of Activate being named one of the top 100 emerging companies to watch in 2001 by Computerworld."
Activate brings over three years of experience streaming content for enterprise, traditional media, entertainment and dot.com communities. Activate provides a broad range of streaming services, including production and distribution of online live and on-demand events for both business communications and consumer events, enabling enhanced end-user audio and video experiences for QuickTime, Windows Media Player and Real Media Player users.
