BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2000
Polyhedra Plc, today announced delivery of Polyhedra, a leading In-memory Object-relational Database, for SGI IRIX operating system on the SGI Origin family of servers.
Polyhedra has made the commitment to support SGI in large part because they provide a natural environment for ultra-high speed database applications ranging from Internet services to telecom to industrial automation. In addition to ultra-high speed database processing, fault tolerance and continuous availability are a key requirement for SGI high-performance computing. Polyhedra brings fault tolerant technology leadership and experience with commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions for business- and mission-critical applications. The Polyhedra Development Suite 3.1 for IRIX 6.x is initially released for the Origin family of servers but Polyhedra plans to release support for other SGI/MIPS platforms, in addition to SGI Linux.
&uot;We are pleased to be able to showcase our In-memory database performance on such an advanced computing platform,&uot; said David Morse, Director of Marketing, Polyhedra. &uot;The high-end scalability of SGI combined with the real-time performance of Polyhedra will provide the best price/performance ratio for the toughest database processing problems.&uot;
The database executes entirely in memory using standard and optimized memory allocation to produce performance that is many times faster than conventional databases cached in memory. Data that is persistent, including SQL transactions, are written to magnetic media. Active Queries, a unique feature in Polyhedra, allows SQL statements, and low-level object queries, to be persistent and subsequently return changes in database information to clients. Executing on-line, Active Queries provide a built-in SQL Push technology.
Polyhedra's application framework includes tools for standard SQL, object-oriented database development, C/C /ODBC Client API's, class libraries, seamless integration with leading enterprise-class RDBMS, modules for high-speed data acquisition, and historical data storage with SQL access. Encapsulation allows any TCP/IP-based protocol to be used as an object method, with the methods executing inside the database process and accessible to other objects/information stored in the database. HTTP-based object methods eliminate the need for the web server layer by providing standard web browsers with direct access to data and applications running in main memory.
Polyhedra Product Information
Polyhedra provides a unique combination of technology based on relational SQL and object-oriented database standards for reliable database execution in main memory. It is designed for business- and mission-critical embedded applications, requiring event-driven real-time SQL database processing, complex database designs, sophisticated data persistence and fault tolerance for transactional reliability and continuous operation. Polyhedra's active, object-relational architecture has no built-in limitations except available memory, allowing real-time database application developers to produce heterogeneous client-server and web-database server applications on 32- and 64-bit platforms for major UNIX, Linux, RTOS, and Windows NT computing platforms. The advanced technology in Polyhedra is targeted at an increasing number of areas that require a level of performance, flexibility, and fault tolerance that conventional databases cannot provide.
