WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 2000
Commerce One(R) Inc., (NASDAQ:CMRC) the leader in global e-commerce solutions for business, today announced that it is one of three independent software vendors chosen by Microsoft as a Windows 2000 Global Launch Partner.
Commerce One Auction Services -- the only Windows 2000-compatible business to business auction service in the world -- and Commerce One BuySite(TM) e-procurement application were demonstrated during Bill Gates' keynote address this morning at San Francisco's Moscone Center as part of the worldwide operating system launch.
&uot;Commerce One and Microsoft have created the world's leading business-to-business e-commerce platform,&uot; said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft. &uot;We chose Commerce One as a Global Launch Partner because Commerce One's portal and auction solutions exemplify what can be done with the Windows 2000 operating system. We're having a lot of joint success in the field with 70 customers including General Motors and British Telecom, and look forward to more opportunities as the year unfolds.&uot;
Commerce One's MarketSite(TM) Portal Solution, BuySite e-procurement application, and Auction Services fully leverage the advanced reliability and scalability of the Windows 2000 operating system, taking advantage of the updated node clustering capability and support for 4-way and 8-way multiprocessors. This will enable Commerce One and its customers to rapidly scale global e-commerce systems to support tens of thousands of trading partners and millions of transactions. Commerce One's Windows 2000-based Auction Services will enable standalone auction portals, in addition to global trading portals that handle e-commerce transactions for direct, indirect, and ad-hoc purchasing.
&uot;We believe that Microsoft Windows 2000 provides the kind of reliability and scalability our customers require to implement robust global trading systems,&uot; said Mark Hoffman, chief executive officer of Commerce One. &uot;Commerce One uses Windows 2000 as its platform of choice for Commerce One MarketSite, the U.S. portal for global business, Commerce One Auction Services and other products and services. We're proud of our close business relationship with Microsoft.&uot;
Companies deploying Windows 2000-based e-commerce solutions from Commerce One will be able to establish trading relationships with other companies around the world through the Global Trading Web, the world's largest business-to-business trading community. Comprised of many open e-marketplaces running on the Commerce One MarketSite portal solution, the Global Trading Web provides unprecedented economies of scale for buying organizations, suppliers, and service providers worldwide. Each global trading portal is independently owned and operated by a leading market maker in a region or industry -- resulting in the greatest choice for all trading partners. Global trading portals are currently operated by Banacci in Latin America, British Telecommunications in the United Kingdom, Cable and Wireless Optus in Australia, Commerce One in the United States, Deutsche Telekom in Germany, NTT Communications in Japan, SESAMi.com in Singapore, Swisscom in Switzerland and TD Bank in Canada. In addition, General Motors and the Royal Dutch/Shell group operate global trading portals for the automotive and oil industries.
