SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2000
VERITAS(R) Software Corporation (Nasdaq:VRTS), the industry's leading enterprise-class application storage management software provider, today announced that VERITAS NetBackup(TM) is an integral component in today's demonstration of the first combined network-attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN) data protection solution for network storage systems.
The multi-vendor demonstration leverages VERITAS NetBackup's ability to support removal of backup traffic from the production network.
Uniting six storage vendors from the NAS and SAN industries -- including VERITAS Software; Quantum, ATL Products, Inc.; Legato Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:LGTO); Network Appliance, Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP); Spectra Logic Corporation and Vixel Corporation (Nasdaq:VIXL) -- the multi-vendor team will demonstrate the interoperable, integrated SAN/NAS solution at the W Hotel in San Francisco today ((1)please see related announcement dated today).
The solution, a Fibre Channel SAN-based shared tape backup system that supports Network Appliance filers managed by enterprise data storage software, demonstrates that customers can utilize a combination of NAS and SAN technology to best address their network storage system requirements. In coordination with VERITAS NetBackup, a tape library can deliver worry-free, unattended backup for several terabytes of data. The tape libraries lower the risk of data loss and provide a central repository for on-site media.
&uot;Joint cooperation between SAN and NAS vendors is critical to developing reference platforms on which our joint customers can build reliable network storage infrastructures,&uot; said Steve Colman, vice president, strategic alliances and worldwide OEM operations, VERITAS Software. &uot;We continue to support third-party Fibre Channel and storage vendor interoperability testing in order to ease customer adoption of this new technology.&uot;
