PALO ALTO, Calif., and NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 2000
Hewlett-Packard Company and Mimeo.com today announced the formation of a strategic alliance to provide a convenient and highly reliable Internet-based printing and document-production service. The alliance will expand the printing e-services available to HP customers. HP made a significant financial investment in Mimeo.com and will position Mimeo.com as a preferred e-services provider of distributed printing.
For example, Mimeo.com software will be pre-loaded on selected HP PCs and notebook PCs, and distributed with HP printing and imaging products.
&uot;HP knows more about business printing than any other company in the world,&uot; said Jeff Stewart, chief executive officer of Mimeo.com. &uot;Together, HP and Mimeo.com plan to bring the advantages of Mimeo.com's Internet-based printing service to top corporate customers throughout the United States. This relationship combines Mimeo.com's premier services, which help professionals produce important, finished, business documents and presentations, with HP's reputation as a global leader in printing and imaging.&uot;
Mimeo.com is the only Internet-based printing service that ensures quality production and overnight delivery of business documents from a secure central production facility. HP customers will be able to select Mimeo.com from the print-option menu on their computers or PDAs and instantly connect to the Mimeo.com service, through which any document can be printed and bound by Mimeo.com's production team and delivered overnight via FedEx.
&uot;We believe that Mimeo.com provides knowledge workers with a compelling Web-based alternative to conventional document production and distribution processes,&uot; said Carolyn Ticknor, president of HP's Imaging and Printing Systems. &uot;This relationship will reduce our customers' reliance on copiers and copy centers and help them take full advantage of the Internet as a business tool. The addition of Mimeo.com to the HP Managed Print Services offering is an excellent example of how HP is focused on making the Internet work for our customers.&uot;
Kriss Kirchhoff, general manager of HP's Digital Workplace Services Division, serves as the HP representative on the Mimeo.com board of directors. &uot;The investment and strategic relationship with Mimeo.com came only after extensive analysis of the market potential and competitive landscape,&uot; said Kirchhoff. &uot;To make sure that Mimeo.com is able to fully leverage the infrastructure and resources of HP, we have assigned a full-time senior manager to the Mimeo.com relationship. Both HP and Mimeo.com will benefit from technology and development exchanges enabled by this relationship.&uot;
HP and Mimeo.com are exploring additional opportunities to jointly develop new products and services to enhance the experience and productivity of Internet-based printing solutions.
