New SnapManager(TM) for Exchange Provides High Availability
and Reduces Downtime from Hours to Minutes
Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), the leading provider of network-attached data access and management solutions, today launched its SnapManager for Microsoft(R) Exchange solution. SnapManager utilizes NetApp(R) filers to help system administrators easily recover and backup Exchange databases - significantly reducing time and costs associated with Exchange server downtime.
Also announced today in a separate press release, NetApp's SnapManager and filer customers using Microsoft Exchange will have access to support services through IBM Global Services.
&uot;Downtime means lost dollars for any business. As a result, network managers are demanding solutions that improve data availability, reducing the complexity associated with server resuscitation and data recovery. For this reason, SnapManager software will provide enormous ROI,&uot; said Larry Kubo, vice president of marketing, Network Appliance. &uot;The SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange solution is consistent with NetApp's approach to delivering businesses a highly reliable and simple answer to manage and store data.&uot;
Network Appliance's SnapManager, unlike other solutions, performs a Snapshot(TM) backup of the Exchange databases without shutting down Exchange services - providing continuous uptime for an online backup. In the event of data corruption, SnapManager empowers administrators to rapidly restore all of the Exchange data in minutes - as opposed to the hours required to restore data from traditional tape backup solutions. SnapManager for Exchange backup and recovery is designed to give administrators more options with increased storage space. The Snapshot backups reside on the NetApp filer, which can support up to 20 different Snapshots concurrently with minimal space requirements.
&uot;Network Appliance is addressing a key problem that impacts businesses which rely on Microsoft Exchange today: the management of downtime and the impact it has on today's corporate networks. When Microsoft Exchange servers experience downtime, SnapManager for Exchange is able to significantly reduce recovery time from hours to minutes,&uot; said Brian Cooper, AVP, Bank of Oklahoma Technical Services.
About SnapManager for Exchange
SnapManager software provides data recovery in minutes rather than hours. SnapManager also backs up files via Snapshots without interrupting e-mail service and lets you manage Microsoft Exchange Information Stores more efficiently. With SnapManager software, your Exchange system can grow while your enterprise maintains continuous communication.
SnapManager Modules:
SnapManager Data Migrator: Sets up a filer in an Exchange environment for easy administration. SnapManager Data Migrator copies the Exchange Information Stores to the filer and configures Exchange to use the Information Stores from the filer.
SnapManager Backup: Performs online backups by making Snapshot copies of the Exchange Information Stores and transaction log files. SnapManager Backup schedules frequent automatic backups for maximum security and uninterrupted service.
SnapManager Restore: This module restores Information Stores with no data loss. With SnapManager Restore, a wizard guides the selection of the Snapshot copy to restore, and enables replay of accumulated transaction logs to bring the database back to a current state.
