Fourteen Central Indiana High School Athletes Nominated for the 2000 McDonald's All American High School Basketball Team

Fourteen of Central Indiana's high school athletes are being recognized as the finest basketball players in the country through their selection as candidates for the 2000 McDonald's(R) All American High School Basketball Team.

The following are candidates for the 2000 McDonald's All American High School Basketball Team:

      Michael Bennett        Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory High School
      Jonathan Owens         Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory High School
      John Hamilton          Greenfield Central High School
      Matt Backs             Marion High School
      Zach Randolph          Marion High School
      Chris Loveless         Mooresville High School
      Austin Parkinson       Northwestern High School
      Andre Owens            Perry Meridian High School
      Traver Griffin         Pendelton Heights High School
      Josh Grant             Taylor High School
      Jerome Williams        Taylor High School

These 14 All American High School candidates are part of 1,800 prep basketball standouts in the nation, nominated by the McDonald's All American Basketball Team Selection Committee, a group of nationally prominent basketball experts.

As a nominee, these players are in the running to be part of the 24-man team that is selected for the 2000 McDonald's All American High School Basketball Team. The team roster will be announced Monday, February 28 on ESPN.

McDonald's All American alumni include Indianapolis' own, Josh Gardner of North Central High School, superstars Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Grant Hill, Isiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkins, and Patrick Ewing.

The 2000 McDonald's All American High School Game will be held Wednesday, March 29 in Boston, Massachusetts, at the FleetCenter. A portion of the Game ticket revenues will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Boston. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN, at 8:00 p.m. EST.
