BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 9, 2000

Partnership benefits Corel users who are building compelling,

high-impact Web sites

Macromedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: MACR) and Corel Corporation (NASDAQ:CORL)(TSE:COR.) today announced they have entered into a licensing agreement that will bring Macromedia Flash(tm) technology to Corel(r) LINUX(r) and CorelDRAW(r) 9. Macromedia Flash is a solution for high-impact, vector-based Web sites that deliver motion, sound, interactivity and graphics.

Corel LINUX will become the first Linux(r) OS to include the Flash Player as a standard component. With the inclusion of the Flash Player in Corel's Linux Distribution, users will automatically be able to view Flash content on the Web without having to download a player.

Furthering Corel's commitment to compatibility, Corel will develop the CorelDRAW Exporter for Macromedia Flash(tm) and make it available for free from both Corel and Macromedia Web sites this spring. Flash (SWF) files exported from CorelDRAW 9 can also be brought into the Macromedia Flash authoring environment to add animation, interactivity, MP3 audio compression and other advanced Web features.

Flash content is delivered with a compact but rich file that can be streamed quickly from any Web server. CorelDRAW 9 users will be able to save their artwork natively in the Flash file format (SWF) from within CorelDRAW 9. With Flash file support, Corel further extends the dominance of CorelDRAW as the world leader in file format compatibility, now supporting over 100 graphics and word processing formats.

Currently, CorelDRAW users need to convert their vector artwork to a bitmapped GIF or JPEG file to publish online, in the process losing scalability, detail, and compactness. With Flash support, these users will immediately gain these compelling benefits.

&uot;Our Flash Export for CorelDRAW 9 will provide incredible functionality to our users,&uot; said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer for Corel Corporation. &uot;Corel LINUX is the first Linux OS to bundle the Macromedia Flash Player and demonstrates how Corel is leading the way in bringing the applications you expect for Windows and the Macintosh OS to the Linux world.&uot;

Corel LINUX is a user-friendly Linux OS that brings a wide range of mainstream productivity and graphics applications to the Linux desktop. Current versions of the Apple(r) Macintosh(r) OS and Microsoft(r) Windows(r) 98 include the Flash Player.

&uot;Corel's highly functional and user-friendly Linux OS distribution has created a tremendous amount of excitement in the software industry, and Macromedia is pleased that Corel has acknowledged Flash as a vector publishing standard for this offering,&uot; said David Mendels, senior vice president and general manager of Macromedia's Web Publishing division. &uot;Users of Macromedia and Corel products should also be excited about the Flash export for CorelDRAW, which will allow designers to leverage their print design expertise to create compelling Web graphics and user interfaces.&uot; Corel Corporation
