NEEDHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2000
SHYM Technology, Inc., the leader in Securing e-Business Applications(TM), today introduced MailShyms(TM) that let organizations easily deploy and manage secure e-mail using public key infrastructure (PKI). MailShyms snap digital certificates into the three most popular e-mail applications--Lotus Notes, Microsoft Outlook, and Eudora--easily delivering top e-mail security without requiring users to upgrade their existing e-mail packages.
MailShyms take the pain out of securing e-mail by replacing the limited PKI services already built into the leading e-mail packages with a new capability to centralize management of digital certificates, simplify user profile configurations, maintain consistency across multiple platforms, enforce trust policies, and bridge interoperability gaps between different e-mail clients.
"Today's largest corporations have tens of thousands of employees using e-mail as the primary mode of communication. Many of these organizations, especially those in regulated industries, such as banking and government, are mandated to provide secure messaging both outside and within the firewall," said James Geary, president and CEO of SHYM Technology. "MailShyms provide a common platform for securing vital e-mail communications--enabling companies to snap in virtually any certificate without upgrading their mail packages. MailShyms are the fastest and safest way to secure e-mail communications."
MailShyms leverage SHYM Technology's S/MIME engine, which has been exhaustively tested to ensure interoperability between multiple platforms and e-mail clients--making it easier to take advantage of PKI services and use digital certificates in e-mail applications, even in heterogeneous e-mail environments. With the widest support available for the most popular e-mail applications and digital certificates encryption protocols, MailShyms accelerate the implementation of PKI without having to perform costly upgrades or change e-mail platforms entirely.
For example, Lotus Notes R5 is the first version to have built-in support for standard digital certificates. The thousands of organizations relying on Lotus Notes R4.6 would be forced to upgrade to R5 to utilize S/MIME. The MailShym for Lotus Notes transparently supports Notes R4.5, R4.6, and R5, providing a customer controlled migration to the new Notes platforms. Additionally, the MailShym for Notes is fully interoperable with the MailShym for Outlook, preventing any cross-platform issues.
"We are seeing a real need for interoperable secure messaging capabilities, especially in the area of healthcare," said Dahl Gerberick, Director of Operations for Deloitte & Touche's Secure e-Business Technology Center. "As more doctors, patients, and insurers communicate online, user-friendly products are needed to provide the required security, privacy and confidentiality of personally identifiable medical records."
MailShyms work with PKEnable(TM) V2, the powerful new upgrade announced today for the company's flagship product family that enables Web, client/server, and e-mail applications to "snap in" PKI security (please see http://www.shym.com/products.html).
With PKEnable V2, SHYM Technology offers the most comprehensive enterprise application security integration (EASI) solution on the market today. Now, virtually all types of applications--including Web, e-mail, client/server, database and stand-alone applications--can be integrated with PKI services from leading vendors, including Entrust (NASDAQ: ENTU), VeriSign (NASDAQ: VRSN), CyberTrust, Baltimore (NASDAQ: BALT), and Xcert International, without the pain of deploying and maintaining custom linkages.
Pricing and Availability
MailShyms for Lotus Notes, Microsoft Outlook, and Eudora will be available in Q1 2000. Pricing starts at $5,000 for a 25-user pilot implementation, which includes one day of on-site technical support.
