The UTS System bridges power and flexibility to address both

legacy data requirements and the business need for open systems

connectivity

The Technology Division of Amdahl Corporation, today announced the availability of the UTS(R) System Version 4, Release 4 (UTS Release 4.4). It supports a System/390(R)-compatible, SVR4-based software environment for high performance, large-scale enterprise open systems computing. As the only System/390 UNIX(R) that runs in native mode, UTS Release 4.4 connects to and shares a common platform with legacy systems, providing enterprises with flexibility, high performance and productivity. This release of UTS features proven high reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS), as well as enhanced performance and connectivity. As a result, it is well positioned for focused Web-based server applications with extensive data requirements.

UTS Release 4.4 operates on the Amdahl Millennium(TM) Global Servers, the Amdahl System 1000 family of servers and the 5995M, 5995A and 5990M series of processors. This release is available for license on processors from IBM and HDS. UTS Enhanced Model Compatibility support service is required. In addition, UTS Release 4.4 is also designed to meet major customer objectives to easily facilitate their migration from UTS2.1 to UTS4, and to enhance UTS4 system performance. Multiple new features are now available that allow customers to run UTS2.1 programs without recompilation on UTS4 and to easily use Web-based services for reporting problems and applying maintenance.

&uot;Amdahl is committed to delivering UTS resources to the vertical communications market that meet and exceed their IT challenges,&uot; said David Radack, Vice President and General Manager of UTS Systems at Amdahl. &uot;UTS is recognized in the communications industry as the most reliable mission-critical production platform. By using UTS Release 4.4 as a base, CLECs can package UNIX telecom operations support systems solutions around this server platform to specifically meet their business and operations needs. In addition, Amdahl will be engaging customer and industry focus groups to define future Web- and Java-based solutions.&uot;
