New OpenLinux eServer Runs On Server-Class

Hardware and Will Debut At Linuxworld

Caldera Systems, Inc. will present OpenLinux eServer 2.3 at Linuxworld Expo in New York City, February 2nd.

OpenLinux eServer is based on Caldera's award-winning OpenLinux technology that recently won seven industry awards, including &uot;Best Networked Operating System and &uot;Linux Distribution of the Millennium.&uot; The OpenLinux eServer 2.3 ships with IBM's VisualAge for Java and WebSphere Application Server Standard Edition, V2.03, for Linux.

Benefits

OpenLinux eServer 2.3 is designed to save hours of configuration and administration time for network and system administrators deploying Linux solutions into their network infrastructure. Designed to be the most easy-to-use Linux for eBusiness Server platform, OpenLinux eServer 2.3 has been productized and provides benefits beyond those of rapid deployment.

OpenLinux eServer is the first Linux product to include Webmin, a powerful Web-based remote administration interface. Through Webmin, managers can remotely administer eServer from nearly anywhere and virtually manage all aspects of their systems as well as many third-party applications.

Additionally, solutions providers can reduce the cost of on-site trouble-shooting through its powerful administrative capabilities.

WebSphere and VisualAge

Included in OpenLinux eServer 2.3 is IBM's WebSphere Application Server providing full Java support for the latest APIs and dynamic Web content generation including the use of JavaServer pages, servlet applications and JavaBeans technology. WebSphere technology targets simple to medium-level eBusiness transactional environments in tandem with dynamic Web content generation.

WebSphere includes a function-rich IBM HTTP server (based on technology from the Apache HTTP server) with SSL-based security and performance features.

VisualAge for Java works closely with WebSphere enabling developers to test and debug applications remotely, greatly decreasing development time.

OpenLinux eServer

OpenLinux eServer has been compiled and optimized to run on Pentium II (and higher) processors and is certified to run on IBM's Netfinity line of hardware as well as other IA servers. It can support up to 4GB memory and supports the new Raw I/O and dynamic file descriptors increasing the scalability of powerful applications like Lotus Domino/Notes.

&uot;This is the Linux for eBusiness server solution that the enterprise has been asking us for,&uot; said Ransom Love, President and CEO of Caldera Systems, Inc.

&uot;With the inclusion of WebSphere and VisualAge, any business needing Linux eBusiness solutions will want it. Who wouldn't? System and network administrators can now rapidly deploy Linux eBusiness solutions and remotely and securely manage their systems at an extremely low cost -- it's a no-brainer.&uot;

&uot;As a recognized leader in Linux for eBusiness solutions, Caldera has the experience and market presence to give business partners the ability to capitalize on opportunities in this exciting new space,&uot; said Dick Sullivan, vice president of Integrated Solutions Marketing, IBM Software Group.

OpenLinux eServer 2.3 is designed for installation and deployment in an enterprise-class environment and contains multi-user disk quota support enabled by default on individual workstations. In short, it can be set up and run out of the box.
