DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2000
Industrial-Strength Application Server Delivers Web Services,
Container-Managed Persistence and Enhanced Security
ObjectSpace, Inc., a leading supplier of business-to-business integration solutions and Internet infrastructure, today announced the release of its Voyager Application Server(tm) 3.2.
Voyager Application Server addresses the enterprise-level needs for reliability, scalability and security through its new Web services, container-managed persistence and SSL capabilities. These new features strengthen Voyager Application Server's position as an industry-leading, EJB-based application server for constructing scalable distributed applications. Built on the strength of Voyager ORB Professional, Voyager Application Server enables the construction of enterprise-wide distributed applications using standard Enterprise Java Beans (EJB). Through its "universal container," Voyager Application Server simultaneously supports RMI, CORBA and COM clients. Written in 100% Pure Java(tm), Voyager Application Server supports the EJB, JDBC, JNDI, RMI and JTA Enterprise Java APIs, as well as the industry-standard CORBA 2 ORB, Naming, and Object Transaction Services.
"Today's e-business applications demand the scalability, confidentiality, and data integrity provided by Voyager Application Server," said David Norris, ObjectSpace president and CEO. "Built on the strength and universality of Voyager ORB, the Voyager Application Server from ObjectSpace delivers the industry's most flexible application server. Organizations around the world rely on Voyager to leverage their investments in technology and integrate with trading partners."
Support for powerful new Web services have been added to Voyager Application Server 3.2, including an HTTP Server, Java Server Pages (JSP) and Java servlets. With the new Web services in Voyager Application Server 3.2, developers can create and deploy Web-enabled applications quickly and easily. JSPs allow the flexibility of embedding Java servlets within an HTML page for later interpretation and execution. Servlets provide increased portability, efficiency, performance and power over traditional CGI-based Web servers.
The new container-managed persistence feature in Voyager Application Server 3.2 allows the transparent storage and retrieval of Java objects, separating the details of object persistence from the business logic. Voyager Application Server 3.2 has been adapted to use The Object People's TOPLink object/relational mapping tool to provide container-managed persistence.
Addressing the intense security demands of industrial-strength applications, Voyager Application Server 3.2 now includes support for the industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 3.0 protocol.
The Voyager Application Server is part of the Voyager product family for state-of-the-art, distributed computing that simplifies and unifies the most common industry standards. This family includes Voyager ORB, a high-performance, full-featured object request broker that simultaneously supports CORBA and RMI. Its innovative dynamic proxy generation takes ease of use to the next level by removing the need for stub generators. Voyager ORB includes a universal naming service, activation framework, publish/subscribe, and mobile agent technology. Voyager ORB Professional builds on the strength of Voyager ORB and adds a powerful GUI-driven management console, a light client for remote-enabling applets within a 15K footprint, a DCOM bridge, Dynamic XML and much more. Voyager Security includes a flexible security framework, lightweight security implementation, support for secure network communications via SSL adapters, and firewall tunneling using the industry standard HTTP and SOCKS protocols. Voyager Transactions delivers full OTS-compliant distributed transaction support, including two-phase commit and a one-phase commit JDBC adapter. Voyager Application Server 3.2 is available and can be purchased directly from ObjectSpace. A 30-day evaluation copy of Voyager Application Server 3.2 can be downloaded from the ObjectSpace Web site at www.objectspace.com.
