Portfolio 5.0 Manages and Distributes Media Assets for Individuals,
Workgroups, and Corporations via LAN or Internet
Scaling from a single user to the enterprise, Extensis(R) Portfolio(TM) 5.0 now helps corporations of any size save time, money and needless headache on lost or hard to find digital media assets such as photographs, audio and multimedia files, or corporate artwork and logos.
Portfolio 5.0 effectively helps manage corporate knowledge assets by allowing users to catalog, manage, share and distribute these valuable files to anyone via its client/server and Web solutions. Available April 2000, the updated Portfolio product line will offer three product configurations:
-- Portfolio 5.0 -- Operates as a standalone, in a peer-to-peer
network environment or as the client for Portfolio Server. This
customizable solution allows creative individuals and small
workgroups to efficiently organize and manage their digital
content. PortWeb, the Portfolio Web server plug-in is included
free.
-- Portfolio Server 5.0 -- Allows workgroups to easily share
collections of digital media via corporate LAN or Internet.
Consists of five free Portfolio 5.0 clients, PortWeb and
Portfolio Server. Additional clients can be purchased as needed.
-- Portfolio SQL Connect -- Allows organizations to offer high
volume, high performance access to digital media repositories via
corporate intranet or more broadly via the Internet. Designed for
enterprise users needing to connect Portfolio Server 5.0 with a
Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle 8i database.
PortWeb, included with Portfolio and Portfolio Server, allows businesses the ability to create an intranet, extranet or Internet site to share assets among users.
&uot;Companies spend unbelievable amounts of time and money searching for, and about a third of the time, fully re-creating digital files and art for corporate branding, the Web, PowerPoint presentations and sales collateral,&uot; said Sioux Fleming, senior product marketing manager, Extensis Products Group. &uot;With Portfolio 5.0, we now offer a scalable solution that helps users find what they need when they need it no matter where it may be physically located, or how big their collection of files has become.&uot;
Fully Scalable
The Portfolio 5.0 family can scale to support individuals, workgroups or corporations. Users may purchase the single user version while workgroups with multiple copies of Portfolio can easily share individual catalogs in peer-to-peer networks. When needs grow to require a more robust client/server environment, users can simply add and connect their existing Portfolio clients to a Portfolio Server. Meeting the needs of the enterprise, Extensis now offers the high-performance Portfolio SQL Connect for Portfolio Server that allows for connectivity to existing SQL databases.
Portfolio and the Web
Corporations looking to distribute media assets over an intranet, extranet or Internet site may painlessly do so with the help of PortWeb, the Portfolio Web server plug-in. Users simply submit a search via their Web browser. From here, PortWeb brokers the request between the Web Server and Portfolio database(s). PortWeb queries the Portfolio database and submits its results back to the user. These users could be employees outside the creative department or external resellers or licensees.
Completely Customizable
The Portfolio database offers unlimited, customizable database fields, allowing users to track the information important to their individual workflows. Portfolio can catalog all file types, regardless of the application used to create them.
Portfolio also offers customizable views that allow users to simultaneously see images and as much text information as they choose. Other customizable features include the ability to:
-- Display images automatically as a slideshow with accompanying
information;
-- Search across multiple catalogs, even via a Web site;
-- View all pages of multiple-page PowerPoint, QuarkXPress or
Acrobat documents and search the text of these files.
-- Read and embed the invisible Digimarc(TM) digital watermarks to
protect copyrighted content;
-- And group assets into hierarchical categories.
Access Control
Portfolio offers advanced administration features. Users and groups functionality allows access to catalogs based on individual rights rather than access levels and passwords. In addition, catalog administration may easily be accessed from any Portfolio client.
