PacketShaper Installed to Protect Organization's
Mission-Critical SNA Traffic, Highlights Packeteer's
Strong Growth in Asian Market
Packeteer, Inc. (Nasdaq:PKTR), a leading provider of Internet application infrastructure systems, today announced that the Korean Exchange Bank Credit Service Company, Ltd., one of the leading credit card service organizations in Korea, has deployed Packeteer's PacketShaper(TM) bandwidth management solution at all 24 branch offices nationwide.
The PacketShapers will provide the Korean Exchange Bank Credit Service Company with proactive protection of their time-sensitive Systems Network Architecture (SNA) traffic and critical Web-based customer credit information.
The selection by the Korean Exchange Bank Credit Service Company highlights Packeteer's strong growth in Asia and overall strong international sales. PacketShaper provides a high-performance, reliable bandwidth management solution that protects critical application performance, without incurring the cost of purchasing additional bandwidth -- which is tremendously expensive in Korea.
"The increasing IP network traffic demands placed an incredible strain on our mission-critical, SNA traffic and Web-based customer credit applications," said Hee-Kwon Lee, network manager of the Korean Exchange Bank Credit Card Service Co. Prior to installing PacketShaper, the performance of the organization's traffic suffered when it shared the bandwidth with competing traffic.
The Credit Card Service originally tried to fix the problem by mandating that all workers stay off the Internet, but Lee continued to receive complaints regarding poor performance from branch employees. "PacketShaper was the perfect solution to protect our mission-critical traffic while eliminating the need for costly network upgrades. With more and more Internet applications, PacketShaper's advanced bandwidth management capabilities are clearly at the forefront of Web-based network solutions."
"The Korean Exchange Bank has been a leader in offering a wide range of trade financing and foreign exchange services," added Neil Sundstrom, Packeteer's vice president of sales. "This deployment demonstrates how Packeteer's PacketShaper continues to be relied upon to protect the mission-critical applications for some of the most extensive worldwide networks, such as the Korean Exchange Bank Credit Service Company."
PacketShaper Product Family
The PacketShaper family of bandwidth management solutions is comprised of three products: the 1000 series, which handles traffic at speeds up to 384 Kbps; the 2000 series, which manages bandwidth on T1/E1-speed connections up to 8Mbps; and the 4000 series, which supports T3/E3 links.
About Korean Exchange Bank
Korean Exchange Bank (KEB) is one of the leading commercial banks in Korea. KEB was established as a government-owned bank in January 1967, when it was separated from the Bank of Korea to specialize in the foreign exchange and trade business. For the following decade, KEB was the only Korean bank to offer trade financing and foreign exchange services.
To keep pace with Korea's economic growth in the 1970s, KEB developed a wide range of innovative products and services, built a strong customer base and established extensive branch networks while continuing to sharpen its traditional dominance in international banking.
A banking pioneer, KEB is the first Korean bank to establish overseas branches and subsidiaries, as well as the first to introduce cash dispensers, credit cards and an on-line deposit/withdrawal system.
