Yankee Survey of SERENA Customers Finds Increased Uptime and

Reliability, Improved Time to Market, and Lower Hard Costs

SERENA Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:SRNA), an industry-leading supplier of eBusiness infrastructure Software Change Management solutions, today announced that the Yankee Group has released research which establishes significant value in deploying SERENA's solutions for managing change across today's complex IT infrastructures. The combination of SERENA's Change Man(R) and eChange Man(TM) provide cross-platform control over the development and deployment of the software applications that are behind eBusiness initiatives.

SERENA will be hosting a series of seminars across the country beginning in March of 2000, offering senior IT executives and managers the opportunity to hear Perry Harris, Yankee Group Analyst, outline industry trends and share the results of their research. The Yankee Group surveyed SERENA customers on their use of SERENA's solutions in building their own infrastructures for eBusiness.

"Significant value was established in several areas, including a 28% increase in up-time and reliability, a 23% improvement in time to market for new applications, and an 18% reduction in hard costs. These results underscore the importance of shoring-up application development and maintenance support infrastructure with a SCM product like the Change Man suite of tools," said Yankee Group's Perry Harris. "eBusiness and the Internet have elevated automated Software Change Management from the status of making good business sense to a necessity for survival."

The need for today's companies to leverage legacy data that is commonly stored on mainframes, and at the same time have the agility to roll-out and update new eBusiness applications, has led to increasing awareness of the importance of sound SCM solutions. SERENA offers a single point of control to support the development of software applications running on multiple platforms from the mainframe to the Web, including Windows NT, Unix, and Linux platforms.

"With eBusiness driving an explosion in application development, our customers are challenged with more projects, more dynamic applications, and greater system complexity than ever before. Applications running interactively from the mainframe to the Web are stressing systems for managing software change," said Tony Stayner, VP of Marketing for SERENA. "Our solutions provide our customers with the capability to regain centralized control over their infrastructures, so that their organizations are prepared to leverage new eBusiness opportunities."
