HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 2000

BindView Corporation (NASDAQ:BVEW), the leading provider of IT risk management solutions, today announced that its on line virtual New Year's Eve party was received with enormous success. Attendees from corporations all over the world joined BindView and its RAZOR security team, in welcoming in the New Year. IT professionals preparing for potential Y2K disasters logged into the virtual party to seek support, assistance and fun between the hours of 11 PM Eastern Time to 1 AM Pacific Time. During the party no serious Y2K glitches or security hacks were reported.

"It was the party of the century," said Mark Starry, who manages computer networks for a Concord New Hampshire based hospital, and who joined BindView for the event. "It was the biggest IT virtual event in the history of the world."

"BindView's virtual party was tastefully done," stated Damon Hughes, program systems analyst with Lima Technical College in Ohio. "Things were very quiet for us, but it was nice having BindView's technicians available just in case. I watched the movie Phantom from Space and found it to be very entertaining."

About The Virtual Party

The Virtual party was first conceived for the more than 4,500 companies that have purchased BindView's IT risk management products to secure and maintain their networks and the applications that run on them. The idea snowballed to include all office-bound IT professionals who not only needed assistance making sure things would run smoothly, but who would also appreciate a cyberbash event. Through partnerships with Yahoo!/Broadcast.com, Compaq, CMP and Security Focus, BindView invited thousands to party online throughout the evening. Although no major service interruptions were reported, IT pros and "white hat" hackers were available real-time to offer support for potential Y2K issues and hacker intrusions.

Attendees were entertained with movies, games, prizes, and chat rooms including ones that focused on security, the future, and Y2K effects. " While the world remained calm, IT professionals joined in for Internet debates, radio streams, cult classic movies, games, and prizes," stated Marc Camm, BindView's vice president of marketing. "We were delighted that no major Y2K or hacking incidents distracted our virtual community from having a good time. It was our pleasure to be able to host this event and celebrate the New Year with our customers and their friends."
