DULLES, Va. and PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 2000
America Online, Inc. (NYSE: AOL) the world's leading interactive services company, and Hewlett-Packard, a leading global provider of computing and imaging solutions, today announced an agreement that will enable AOL members to access their AOL e-mail via future HP Jornada Palm-size PC products.
Under the agreement, AOL is developing software that will allow AOL members to use upcoming HP Jornada Palm-size PCs to access, send and receive their AOL e-mail anywhere.
HP will distribute this software with its future Jornada Palm-size PCs, and AOL members will be able to download the AOL e-mail products for the HP Jornada Palm-size PCs directly from the AOL service, at no additional cost.
This agreement enhances the existing relationship between the two companies, designed to deliver greater ease-of-use and the best possible Internet online experience to consumers.
"People are looking for easier ways to communicate and directly access information while they are away from their desks," said Helen Chan, Worldwide Marketing Manager of HP's Asia Pacific PC Division. "We're pleased to work with AOL to give future HP Jornada Palm-size PC users access to their AOL e-mail with an easy and convenient way to stay in touch wherever and whenever they want."
"This new alliance with HP is an extension of our 'AOL Anywhere' strategy, which increases AOL members' ability to use non-PC devices, like HP's Jornada Palm-size PC, to access popular AOL services," said Barry Schuler, America Online, Inc.'s President of Interactive Services.
"We know that AOL members are seeking portable access to services like e-mail that have become embedded in their lives, and we're pleased to work with HP to give our members another way to access their AOL e-mail."
Visit AOL's booth -- No. 5327 -- at the Consumer Electronics Show for a demonstration of AOL e-mail on the HP Jornada Palm-size PC.
