SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 2000
RioPort, Inc., a pioneer in the digital download market, today announced that its RioPort Audio Manager software, a popular media management application for acquiring, managing and playback of digital audio content, has received MetaTrust Certified(TM) status from InterTrust Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq:ITRU). As a MetaTrust Certified solution, RioPort Audio Manager incorporates InterTrust's digital rights management (DRM) technology, making it possible for the sale and purchase of secure digital music and spoken audio content over the Internet.
RioPort also announced today that its DRM-based RioPort Audio Manager software is now included in Magex's digital music commercial deployment system. Magex provides the medium for the sale and delivery of secured digital audio content, and has been running trials during Q4 1999 and continuing into early 2000, with the system going live in late Q1 2000.
"RioPort is aggressively committed to the development of a secure delivery environment so that music and spoken word programming can be sold over the Internet in a way that protects and compensates artists and publishers," said Ron Moore, vice president of legal affairs and business development at RioPort, Inc. "Our relationship with InterTrust and our DRM MetaTrust Certification allows us to deliver a wide range of the best spoken word programming in areas such as audio books, education & training, spiritual and personal development, as well as popular music titles to our major branded partners, worldwide. RioPort's end-to-end secure digital audio system allows our content partners to take advantage of a number of services we offer in encoding, packaging and commerce and our distribution partners now have access to the best programming available for delivery to end-users."
"InterTrust and RioPort have been working together consistently with the common goal of enabling content providers and consumers with DRM solutions that serve each group's specific needs," said Victor Shear, chairman and CEO of InterTrust. "The certification of RioPort Audio Manager represents one more important step towards meeting this goal by enabling consumers to enjoy secured digital audio content in multiple formats."
InterTrust's DRM system enables content providers to deliver digital music and spoken audio files to consumers in a number of formats in a secure DigiBox(TM) container. With its MetaTrust Certification, RioPort Audio Manager can process protected digital content and present that content to consumers with offers that are specified by the providers. Content may be offered in a number of ways, such as free downloadable previews, pay-per-use or full use upon purchase. Once downloaded, the music remains protected. Users can forward the songs to other users who are then presented with the same purchasing offer set forth by the content provider.
"Magex is thrilled to incorporate RioPort's MetaTrust Certified software into our advanced digital commerce service," said Peter Beverley, managing director of Magex. "In the very near future, consumers will be downloading and paying for popular, secured music selections through Magex's service and using applications like the RioPort Audio Manager to manage and playback files from their desktop PC or hand-held appliance."
