LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 6, 2000
CES Show Demo by AirWatch America-Related Venture and
PacketVideo Will Feature On-Demand Traffic and
Road Conditions Over Wireless Web Appliances
Traffic411.com, a Web-based traffic reporting start-up venture has teamed with PacketVideo, the global leader in wireless multimedia software and services for mobile applications, to demonstrate audio/video traffic reports to commuters via wireless phones and palm-size PCs.
The on-demand traffic service will be simulated during the Consumer Electronics Show, Jan. 6-9, at the Las Vegas Convention Center, at the PacketVideo booth No. 6848. Visitors can check traffic cam images displayed on a palm-size PC as a traffic reporter provides a step-by-step overview of current road conditions.
PacketVideo will also be demonstrating live multimedia calls over existing wireless networks.
"The future of traffic reporting is here," said Lisa Osborn, broadcast journalist and founder of Traffic411. "Traffic411 will offer real-time traffic reports on-demand, so commuters won't need to wait to hear a traffic report on the radio that may or may not mention road conditions near their freeway on-ramp."
"Traffic conditions are an excellent example of the type of dynamic information people need access to anytime, anywhere," said Jim Carol, co-founder and chairman of PacketVideo. "Delivering the latest road reports is a powerful, wireless multimedia application that can be done today over existing networks, and will only become more advanced as networks evolve."
PacketVideo is the global leader in wireless multimedia software and services for mobile applications. The company's MPEG-4 compliant encoding, distribution, and decoding software enable content providers and carriers to deliver rich media, not just data, to mobile users anytime, anywhere over any digital wireless network.
Founded in 1998, PacketVideo is based in San Diego, in the heart of the "Telecom Valley." The company's investors include Credit Suisse First Boston, Intel Corporation (Nasdaq:INTC), Nexus Group LLC, QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq:QCOM), Reuters Group PLC (Nasdaq:RTRSY), members of the Rockefeller family, Siemens Mustang Ventures, Sony Corporation of America (NYSE:SNE) and others.
The company Web site can be accessed at www.packetvideo.com.
Earlier this month, Traffic411 entered an agreement with the Los Angeles office of AirWatch America, a leading provider of traffic reports to radio and television stations in the Los Angeles area. The agreement gives Traffic411 reporters access to AirWatch America's proprietary real-time traffic information.
