NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 2000

When Lauren Keyson of The Internet Analyst(sm) asked Mr. O'Connor: "Speaking of your recent acquisition of Abacus Direct, does this mean you are going to start expanding into other businesses, such as database companies, because you think an advertising focus is not enough to sustain DoubleClick (Nasdaq:DCLK) in the future?"

Mr. O'Connor answered, "No, not at all. Our strategy is to be the leading infrastructure company and Abacus Direct is one of the three pieces of infrastructure. It was a very strategic piece of the business. There used to be a lot of competitors, but now the market has consolidated.

"CMGI (Nasdaq:CMGI) is the second biggest now. We have done a little consolidation. NetGravity was a consolidation on the technology side. In terms of advertising dollars, we're competing for the same dollars that Yahoo! (Nasdaq:YHOO) is, and other portals. You see a lot of banners, but we do everything from sponsorships -- which we do on your site [Multex.com (Nasdaq:MLTX)] as well -- from the buttons that pop up, to an assortment of ads."
