NEEDHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2000

Sponsored by Leading Real-time CORBA Vendors

The Object Management Group, an international software consortium responsible for establishing distributed computing specifications, will hold its first Real-time and Embedded Distributed Object Computing Workshop on July 24 to 27, 2000, in Falls Church, VA, USA. Sponsored by Highlander Engineering, Inc.(TM) (www.highlander.com), Objective Interface Systems, Inc. (www.ois.com) and Vertel(R) (www.vertel.com), this four-day workshop is intended to bring together the OMG Standards and Real-time Community to share knowledge, experiences, plans and requirements and to focus the OMG standards in the appropriate areas.

The workshop is organized as a series of open discussions about various aspects of Real-time system architecture and design, with discussions led by position papers given by leading industry experts. Topics for the discussion sessions will include:

-- Scheduling and Resource, addressing topics such as Resource Management Using Multiple Feedback Loops, Quality Objects and Measuring the performance of real-time ORBs;

-- Object & Interface Models, focusing on the unique demands that real-time development makes, and how these can be addressed within the object-based development paradigm;

-- Embedded Systems, where attendees will hear about, and have an opportunity to discuss real-time embedded systems in automotive, aviation and other high-speed, safety-critical areas;

-- Case Studies and Experience Reports, in which speakers from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Venture Development Corporation, Boeing and others will share their experiences developing real-time and embedded solutions.

Each day of the two-day workshop program will conclude with a round-table session. During the Implementers Roundtable, panelists representing real-time CORBA implementers including Highlander Engineering, Inc., BBN, Vertel, Objective Interface Systems, Tri-Pacific Software, Inc. and University of California, Irvine will share their implementation expertise. During the Users' Roundtable, end users will share their experiences in pioneering projects now deploying high performance, real-time or embedded CORBA based applications. All the workshop sessions and round table discussions will give participants the opportunity to participate in discussions.

The workshop will be preceded by two days of tutorials, where attendees can learn more about CORBA and Real-time CORBA from these highly-qualified speakers:

-- A full-day CORBA 3.0 Tutorial, presented by Dr. Jon Siegel of the Object Management Group;

-- A full-day Real-time CORBA Tutorial, presented by Jon Currey of Highlander Engineering, Inc.

The OMG invites all with an interest in, and understanding of, some combination of Real-time and embedded applications, services, tools, and methodologies to the OMG's first Real-time and Embedded Distributed Object Computing Workshop, to be held on July 24 - 27, 2000, at the DoubleTree Hotel at Tysons Corner in Falls Church, VA, USA.
