Infranet to Provide Rapid Time to Market and Enable
Support of New Business Models
Portal Software Inc. (Nasdaq:PRSF), a leading provider of business infrastructure software for Internet and next-generation communications services, today announced that SaskTel, a leading full-service communications company in the Saskatchewan province of Canada, has licensed Portal's Infranet(R) customer management and billing software. The company intends to use Infranet for provisioning and rating its suite of IP based products and services, and expects this strategic move to provide the tools required to improve time to market, as well as the ability to effectively support new business offerings.
"Today's telecommunications market is increasingly competitive and fast-paced, and for SaskTel to be successful in the long term it is imperative that we continue to increase revenues by growing our business in new areas such as the Internet and wireless communications," said Shelly Smith, general manager, Quantumlynx.com division of SaskTel. "Infranet provides us with the flexibility we need to capture new markets, and Portal is clearly a leader in its field. We look forward to leveraging the sophistication and extensibility of Infranet to maintain and increase our competitive advantage."
SaskTel plans to implement Infranet for a variety of its service offerings. In particular, Infranet will support SaskTel's emerging application service provider (ASP) business. In addition, the company's Quantumlynx division will rely on Infranet to provide billing and customer care services for customers of its virtual private office product, Quantumlynx Office. Initial deployment of Infranet is scheduled for August 2000.
"As a market innovator, SaskTel is aggressively working to roll out new business offerings that have great revenue potential yet are highly complex," said Vijay Iyer, vice president market development. "As a result, SaskTel requires a billing infrastructure like Infranet that is robust, flexible and scalable. We are pleased to provide SaskTel with the leading technology that they need to increase their market share and leapfrog their competition."
