Toshiba Announces Web-Based Access to CISC Microcontroller Development Tool Software Updates

New Development Tools Software Update Section of TAEC Web Site Gives

Customers Immediate Access to the Latest Versions of Compilers and

Other Development Tools for Turnkey System Design

Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. (TAEC) Monday announced that software updates for development tools that support the company's Complex Instruction Set Computing (CISC) microcontroller products are now directly downloadable from the TAEC's Web site.

The Development Tool Software Update (DTSU) section of the TAEC Web site gives users of the company's 4-bit, 8-bit and 16-bit microcontrollers immediate access to the latest versions of Toshiba's C and C-like Compilers, as well as integrated development tools such as assemblers and debuggers, needed to support turnkey system design.

To obtain Web-based access to development tool software updates for a particular family of CISC microcontrollers, TAEC customers who have previously purchased the software may simply register online for a user name and password via a form provided in the DTSU section of the Microcontroller Product Site, which is accessible from the microcontroller section of TAEC's Web site at www.taec-mcu.toshiba.com.

Once a user name and password are assigned, a process that typically takes no more than two business days, the customer is notified via e-mail and can immediately begin downloading software updates directly over the Internet.

"We are pleased to offer this Web-based software update service to users of TAEC's CISC microcontroller products," said Don Schneider, business development manager for TAEC's Microcontroller Business Unit.

"This new service, which is representative of TAEC's corporate-wide initiative to leverage the Internet for improved customer service and communication, eliminates the traditional need for customers to request development tool software updates on floppy disk through their sales representative or a field application engineer.

"Instead, customers who have previously purchased the software can now enjoy direct Internet access to the latest versions of development tools needed for system design, enabling them to be more productive and self-sufficient."

Development tool software updates for the following Toshiba CISC microcontroller families are now available through the DTSU section of the TAEC Web site:

-- TLCS-90 Family -- Language Tools and Test Tools

-- TLCS-870 Family -- Language Tools and Test Tools

-- TLCS-870/C Family -- Language Tools and Test Tools

-- TLCS-47 Family -- Language Tools and Test Tools

Development tool software updates for Toshiba's other families of CISC microcontrollers will be available via the TAEC Web site in the coming months.
