Viewlocity Provides Distributed B2B Integration Across Multiple Operating Environments By Extending Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000

Business Wire,  July 17, 2000

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 17, 2000

Agreement Enables Two Companies to Rapidly Connect BizTalk Server 2000

Customers to Trading Partners

Viewlocity, a global provider of B2B integration and online trading community solutions, announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Microsoft Corp. to enable the rapid deployment of Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000-based solutions in heterogeneous operating environments through Viewlocity's Open Integration Server (OIS). Under the agreement, Viewlocity's Open Integration Server for BizTalk Server 2000 will use the XML-based BizTalk Framework to provide a seamless gateway between BizTalk Server 2000-enabled applications and a variety of cross-platform transports, enterprise applications and industry-standard message formats. This solution will allow customers to rapidly connect their BizTalk Server 2000 e-business networks to the many heterogeneous operating environments of their trading partners.

"Microsoft recognizes that the Viewlocity Open Integration Server, with its multi-platform, multi-application coverage, can be very useful in extending the reach of our Windows DNA 2000-based B2B integration solutions," said Don Thompson, director of BizTalk Technology Partnerships for Microsoft. "Customers facing application integration challenges can use Viewlocity's cross-platform integration brokers and application connectors in concert with BizTalk Server 2000 to rapidly integrate with existing applications and accelerate deployment."

The Viewlocity event-based integration broker can be distributed to major Unix, AS/400 and Windows NT operating systems and offering support for rapid connectivity without the need to deploy or install software to individual trading partners. "This means that Microsoft's enterprise customers will benefit from our relationship by taking advantage of Windows DNA 2000 to rapidly connect their e-business networks with a much larger variety of platforms and operating environments," commented Greg Cronin, Viewlocity's CEO. "Additionally BizTalk Server 2000 users will be able to extend their event-based and real time connectivity to external systems, trading exchanges, ERP systems or other legacy applications where Windows DNA 2000 is not yet deployed."

One customer, Ericsson Australia, uses both Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000 and Viewlocity's AMTrix(R) product. "A key reason for choosing Viewlocity as our integration backbone is the ability to allow collaboration between, and integration with, other platforms," said Kate Bennett, General Manager, Mobile Commerce Solutions, Ericsson Australia. "With BizTalk Server 2000 and Viewlocity, we now have a complete solution for our end-to-end business communication -- both internal and external exchange of information with trading partners."

About BizTalk

The BizTalk Initiative represents the collective set of investments that Microsoft is making to facilitate business process integration within and between organizations using Internet-standard protocols and formats. It includes the BizTalk Framework, the BizTalk.org community and business document library, as well as BizTalk Server 2000, a business process orchestration server and tools for developing, executing and managing distributed business processes. These investments are being made in conjunction with industry standards groups, technology and service providers, as well as key global organizations.

Introduced in March 1999, the BizTalk Framework is an open specification for XML-based data routing and exchange. The BizTalk Framework makes it easy to exchange information between software applications and conduct business with trading partners and customers over the Internet. Microsoft, other software companies and industry-standards bodies are using the BizTalk Framework today to more quickly and easily enable B2B processes between systems, independent of operating system, programming model or programming language.
