HouseVentures and Greylock To Direct Broadband
Self-Provisioning Company
Thomas J. Pincince, president and CEO of Brix Networks, has joined the board of directors of Emperative, Inc., a leading provider of communications service provisioning across broadband DSL and cable, wireless and next-generation optical backbone networks. Prior to founding Brix Networks in July 1999, Pincince, a noted entrepreneur and innovator in the telecommunications and data networking industries, was the founder, president, and CEO of New Oak Communications. In 1998, New Oak was acquired by Bay Networks (now Nortel Networks) to create the Contivity Extranet Switch product line based on New Oak's Virtual Private Network (VPN) switch technology.
"We're quite pleased to add Tom to Emperative's board," said Abraham Gutman, Emperative president and CEO. "His demonstrated track record in building successful companies is an invaluable resource as our software breakthroughs continue to guide the service providers' push for end user self-activation and self-management of all communications services."
Pincince's appointment follows a recent string of successes for Emperative: $20 million secured in second round funding; Road Runner's deployment of ProvEn, the company's provisioning software product; strategic co-development partnerships announced with Broadband Access Systems, Cisco, Noochee, and Portal; and the addition of Dave Fellows, data-over-cable pioneer, to Emperative's technical advisory board.
On Emperative's Board of Directors, Pincince joins Gutman; David Aronoff, Greylock General Partner; Ben Gomez, Pilot House Ventures Treasurer; Fred Gerson, Vice President and CFO, Marimba, Inc.; Ellen Filipiak, Senior Vice President, MediaOne, Inc.; and Michael Karfopoulous, member of the general partner of Pequot Venture Partners.
Before starting New Oak, Pincince was director of Forrester Research's Network Strategy Service focusing on the commercial use of the Internet; specifically, defining the market for corporate intranets and the possibilities for private data services over the public Internet. Prior to Forrester, he held marketing and engineering positions at a number of Boston-area companies. Pincince holds an ScB. from Brown University, where he currently serves as president of the Brown University Entrepreneurs Forum.
