"The drama and passion of youth and amateur sports is as compelling as professional sports, often more so," said myteam.com CEO Elliot Katzman. "We want to bring that excitement to relatives and fans throughout the world via the Internet. Myteam is adding an exciting new dimension to existing sports media coverage by allowing a global audience to share the experiences of amateur athletes by truly harnessing the power of the Internet to connect disparate amateur sports teams and fans into one global community."
"This summer, a Little League player's aunt living three thousand miles away can keep track of her nephew's team and know immediately to call and congratulate him on his win or to console him on his loss," said Jean McCormick, myteam.com vice president of content. "Our technology allows us to showcase these talented amateur athletes who might otherwise go unnoticed."
Myteam's "Summer of Champions" includes coverage of the United States national women's softball team as they compete in the "Central Park to Sydney" tour, a 62 game schedule that leads up to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Throughout the summer, team members have been contributing diary entries filled with fascinating details of their tour. Myteam will also cover all of the American Softball Association's summer championships, along with the 40th National Police Athletic League World Series and the Youth Basketball Organization of America National Championships. Coverage includes hundreds of other youth and amateur sports championship games.
The Summer of Champions culminates in extensive coverage of the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, PA, the conclusion of the single largest sports tournament in the world. Teams from more than 100 countries compete throughout the summer for the coveted Little League World Series title, resulting in a week-long battle in Williamsport, between eight teams from four regions from the U.S. as well as four other countries. Myteam's coverage begins with the four U.S. regional LLB championships. Following these events, myteam will travel to Williamsport and provide myteamcast live game simulator and live audio broadcasts of every game, as well as scores, game results, reviews, previews and daily video stories surrounding the Little League World Series. Fans will also be able to access a "live" video and audio stream of the press conferences following each game, plus updates and stories from a kid's perspective posted daily by myteam's "cub reporter," the winner of the "Myteam Moments" essay contest running through the month of July.
"The Internet gives us the ability to cover a vast array of sporting events and deliver the content directly to interested folks across the globe," said myteam vice president of production Bill Stone. "As a media site dedicated to serving the amateur sports community, myteam.com is uniquely qualified to pioneer real innovations in sports coverage."
