As more customers outsource their mission-critical applications -- like email -- to Service Providers, they are demanding high levels of security and reliability. The SunTone Certification and Branding Program is one of the industry's first collaborative efforts to define and audit service provider infrastructure, operational practices, hardware, software, and ultimately, overall service delivery capabilities, to help ensure guaranteed levels of performance, security, availability and uptime.

"No Service Provider of mission critical applications can afford to be without Internet virus protection in this day and age," said Peter Young, Vice President of Market Development Engineering at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "The SunTone Certified Application of Trend Micro's InterScan VirusWall will be an invaluable addition to the SunTone Certification and Branding Program's effort to enable Service Providers to build secure, reliable and scalable worldclass applications."

"With our carrier class antivirus products and this newly earned SunTone certification, Trend Micro is uniquely positioned to be the ideal partner for ASPs and other Service Providers," said Bernie Wu, worldwide senior vice president of sales and marketing for Trend Micro's Internet Outsourcing Services (IOS) division. "Trend Micro's experience in developing and deploying antivirus software on the Solaris Platform and in NOC Centers and our commitment to premium 24x7 rapid response support are critical ingredients for service providers wishing to offer network-based antivirus services for consumers and businesses."

InterScan VirusWall provides scalable, high-performance, Internet gateway protection against viruses and other malicious code. A truly carrier class product, InterScan VirusWall installs on UNIX gateway servers at the ASP's 24x7 Network Operations Center (NOC), enabling providers to offer business or home users subscription-based Virus-Free Email services. Service Providers who license InterScan VirusWall for this purpose become part of Trend Micro's eDoctor? Global Network and receive "real-time" 24x7 antivirus support and access to Trend Micro's worldwide virus and technology experts.

In order to receive SunTone Certification, InterScan VirusWall was put through rigorous benchmark testing to prove it was sufficiently reliable, available, scaleable and predictable to deploy into a 24x7 service provider environment. Extensive testing of InterScan VirusWall, including throughput measurement on a variety of Sun enterprise grade server platforms and sizing tests in multiple configurations, was conducted at Sun Microsystems Service Provider Labs. In addition, Trend Micro was required to demonstrate 24x7 service to support Application Service Providers, which it did through its 24x7 global network of antivirus engineers.
