MORGAN HILL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 18, 2000
DSLcon, a conference on digital subscriber line (DSL) technology with supporting exhibits, has announced its first event in Hong Kong.
DSLcon Asia 2000, which will be held from August 29 to August 31, will take place at the Hong Kong Convention Center.
"We are very excited to bring DSLcon to Hong Kong," said Bill Weber, general manager of DSLcon. "With a track record of impressive growth for the U.S.-based DSLcon events as well as successful launches in Europe last year and Canada earlier this year, we feel the time is right to address the Asian market for high-speed broadband access."
James Wei of Worldview Technology Ventures and Eric Schutz of Alcatel Microelectronics will serve as the keynote speakers for the conference. Wei, an influential venture capitalist with strong ties to the Asian telecommunications market, will address his vision for the financial future of the DSL market and its participating companies. Schutz, who serves as vice president of strategic business development for the giant manufacturer's chip business, will address "ADSL Two Years Down the Road." He will offer insights into how chip vendors can differentiate their wares as well as how mastering and controlling DSL's intellectual property will determine who will dominate the future market.
"Arguably, money and intellectual property are two of the most powerful forces in telecommunications today," said Peter Meade, DSLcon conference director. "We are pleased to have two executives from these camps address our attendees at the first DSLcon Asia."
Also on the program are sessions focusing on the marketing and technical issues facing service providers and equipment makers in the Asian market. Sessions that should be of particular interest to attendees include "What's Next in Broadband-Enabled CPE?" "Value-Added Services: The Key to Competition in the DSL Market," "Automated the Last Mile for DSL," "The Voice over DSL Landscape," "Emerging New Architectures for Next-Generation Integrated Services," "VDSL: Is it the Ultimate DSL?" "Broadband Access for the Multi-Tenant Unit Market" and "Next Generation DSLAMs." In addition, there will be panels focused on the subjects of voice over DSL and the chipset markets.
An abbreviated list of the companies involved in DSLcon Asia 2000 includes Accelerated Networks Inc., DishnetDSL, ECI Telecom, Efficient Networks, Nokia, Nortel Networks, Paradyne, Siemens, Sunrise Telecom, Turnstone Systems and Virata.
