Lightwave Communications Inc. the industry leader in console management solutions announces the selection of it's ConsoleServer 3200 by Sega.com, Inc. (www.sega.com) to provide remote console access for SegaNet, a high speed gaming network and ISP. Sega.com has purchased a number of ConsoleServer 3200s to provide control for remote server sites utilizing Sun "Netra" computers to support the SegaNet online gaming network. "We are very excited to be selected to participate in this landmark project" stated Peter Henderson, Lightwave's Vice President of Sales. The ConsoleServer 3200, which debuted in August of 1999, is a high performance alternative to terminal servers delivering centralized management of serial command ports. Access to the ConsoleServer 3200 can be achieved through multiple terminals, multiple networks and through the optional modem. The ConsoleServer 3200 is network and/or text terminal configurable to 32 devices and to 17 users including the optional modem card. Attached systems can be a variety of computers, UNIX and Linux servers, LAN/WAN components and management systems.

System administration control and contingency options are increased with the ConsoleServer's remote dial-up and telnet access management. This feature allows administrators to remotely access servers as if they were physically on-site. In addition, the ConsoleServer 3200 offers functionality that terminal servers simply cannot provide such as a 64K FIFO buffer per device port that provides an 80-100 screen audit trail. The audit trail provides a valuable tool for troubleshooting mission critical servers in the event of systems problems. "When equipment malfunctions, the audit trail provides essential information to assist in quick problem identification and diagnosis which substantially reduces downtime" states Henderson. Other features such as auto port reset in the event of network interruption, and the inability to send inadvertent "breaks" to Sun servers make the ConsoleServer 3200 truly innovative.

The ConsoleServer 3200 provides superior capabilities for security and control featuring login ID/Password protection from unauthorized access. Once a user passes through these safeguards they have total command console access and interaction to authorized servers.

"The ConsoleServer gets better the longer it's in the rack" claims Henderson, thanks to field (flash) programmable software updates and hot-swap modules for fast re-configuration. Redundant power supplies insure long-term dependability.

The ConsoleServer 3200 is joined by the ConsoleServer 800 which shares many of the same features in a "factory configured" chassis for six sessions and eight devices.
