Virtual Network Computing Developers Encouraged to Make

Free Web Site Their Own

Tridia Corporation, a leader in eSupport technologies, today announced the launch of its sister Web site, www.developvnc.org at the O'Reilly Open Source Software Convention in Monterey, California. Dedicated to the virtual network computing (VNC) developer community, www.developvnc.org offers free resources, assistance, and encouragement to further VNC development activities.

VNC is cross-platform, remote control software that allows a user to view and control the remote screen, keyboard, and mouse of a host machine. This technology, developed by the Olivetti and Oracle Research Labs in Cambridge, England (later acquired by AT&T to become AT&T Laboratories Cambridge) was released as open source and distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

"We want TridiaVNC to be the best VNC distribution available," states Mr. J. P. Jarrett, vice president of software development at Tridia. "We plan to make this happen by fostering a vibrant developer community. Developvnc.org has been designed from the ground up to be the best resource available for the VNC developer. We believe this Web site is a win for everyone. Developers have the tools and resources to develop the best VNC enhancements and can use the site to contribute these enhancements back to the world user community."

Tridia is committed to improving the VNC source and has built an engineering team to work with the VNC developer community at large to further the development and enhancement of new and existing VNC compatible components. The developvnc.org site is open to all and its resources are freely available.

Features of www.developvnc.org

Developvnc.org offers visitors the following:

-- CVS Server. Developers may download the latest VNC source code

from the developvnc.org CVS server. This powerful source code

synchronization and integration tool optimizes parallel

development and distribution.

-- Developer's Mailing List. The mailing list is unmoderated

allowing developers to keep each other informed of their

latest VNC progress by exchanging ideas, tips, and source

code. Questions/comments may be posted and past entries may be

searched for further information.

-- Convenient Contribution Process. The site makes it easy for

developers to contribute their enhancements, bug fixes and

add-on tools back to the VNC community. Contributions are

reviewed for addition to the Contributed or Add-On sections of

the site, and possible integration into the TridiaVNC main

source tree.

-- Documentation/Resource Links. Developers will find FAQs, CVS

server instructions, VNC/RFB Protocol documentation, and other

useful information tailored specifically to the VNC community.

-- VNC Platforms. VNC compatible components, ported to a vast

variety of platforms by various users, are available for

download.

-- Proxies/Add-on VNC Tools/Enhancements. Developer contributed

enhancements that have been folded back into VNC source code,

as well as proxies and add-on tools developed for use along

with VNC, are available for download.

-- Suggested VNC Projects. For those excited about VNC's

potential but not sure what direction to take, a list of

possible projects suggested by users is maintained.
