Aiming to become Asia's leading cosmetics retailer both in store and online, ICON will open its 10,000 square foot cosmetics mega-store in Hong Kong in early August along with a sophisticated and complementary e-commerce Web site, www.icon-icon.com in September.
With plans to open 10 additional mega-stores in major Asian cities by 2002, ICON selected JDA based on its global leadership position, comprehensive retail solutions, and experience helping other emerging retailers successfully launch their businesses.
"We considered other popular retail systems, but chose JDA based on recommendations that JDA is the number one retail software provider in the world," commented ICON Chief Executive Officer Elliott Yuen.
"As a new retailer, it is imperative that we put in place the best retail practices enabled by a proven technology infrastructure. With JDA as one of our world-class strategic partners, we are confident that we will be able to optimize our inventory, maximize profits and fulfill our goal of offering customers competitive prices and a unique shopping experience both online and in store."
"We are thrilled to formalize a partnership with ICON and believe that they are introducing a very exciting concept that will appeal to today's demanding consumers," commented Lyn Schmidt, vice president, managing director Asia Pacific.
"One of ICON's key business objectives is to aggressively penetrate into the e-world. JDA's innovative product suite will provide them with the functionality to cost-effectively support their B2B and B2C strategies."
JDA's first client in Asia to license its new release of Win/DSS and ODBMS, ICON will also serve as one of JDA's fastest implementations. The retailer plans to be operational with Win/DSS and components of ODBMS in approximately two and one half months. ICON will run ODBMS on an IBM RS/6000 Model F80 and Win/DSS on the IBM 4695 Point of Sale System.
