NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 2000

ZDNet, which operates the world's leading Web destination for people who want to buy, use and learn about technology, has awarded Babylon.com top honors as its Shareware Program of the Year and best Education program as voted by Ziff-Davis Media's FamilyPC magazine. The ZDNet Shareware awards recognize the four top "Programs of the Year" and the year's 20 best PC-based shareware programs developed by shareware authors around the world.

Babylon was highlighted as FamilyPC's Shareware Program of the Year, praised for its immediate one-click translation, text-to-speech capability, reference and search option and handy conversion tool. Babylon.com was also selected by FamilyPC editors as the most outstanding program in the Education category, edging out four other finalists in the space.

"We are thrilled that Babylon.com has been recognized by ZDNet, not only once but twice, as a stand-out tool among the thousands of downloadable shareware applications," said Shuki Preminger, CEO of Babylon.com. "This acknowledgement from such well-respected sources of information for Internet users is a tribute to all Babylon.com staff who have worked together to provide one of the most comprehensive tools for translation, conversion and information."

For this year's final selection process, ZDNet Downloads' editors compiled a list of 100 nominees in 20 categories ranging from Personal Finance, Education, and Business & Applications, to Board, Puzzle and Logic games. The nominated programs, all developed or significantly upgraded in the past year, were selected based on functionality, usefulness and originality from ZDNet Downloads' Library of thousands of software and shareware titles. Winners in each category were chosen by top industry experts covering the shareware space including Ziff-Davis Media's PC Magazine, Computer Gaming World, and FamilyPC, and Vulcan Ventures' ZDTV. The editors from each publication and ZDTV chose a single winner from each category that was designated to them and then picked one overall "Program of the Year" from their selections.
