BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2000
New Power MMIC Amplifier
Addresses Performance, Cost and Reliability Requirements of the
Rapidly Emerging Wireless Local Loop Subscriber Market
Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) today introduced its new S-Band Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) with a frequency range of 3.4 to 3.8 gigahertz (GHz).
Designated the TMD3438-1, Toshiba's new power MMIC amplifier provides a reliable, cost-effective solution for today's broadband Wireless Local Loop (WLL) subscriber applications.
"Toshiba is increasing our focus on the Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) market with the introduction of this new S-Band GaAs MMIC," stated Ed Monzon, senior business development manager for Toshiba's Microwave Business Unit. "The wireless communications market is experiencing tremendous growth, especially in the WLL application segment, where market penetration costs are relatively low. With our new S-Band GaAs MMIC, Toshiba can now address the critical performance, cost and reliability issues faced by engineers designing these types of FWA applications."
The TMD3438-1 is a surface mountable MMIC delivered in a low-cost, ceramic package for excellent reliability. The device is internally matched to 50 ohms, which reduces part count and lowers tuning costs. Its lower thermal resistance and larger footprint for thermal dispersion further simplify the design process. The TMD3438-1 features the high RF output power and high power gain needed to support the growing bandwidths of emerging wireless applications. It also demonstrates the high linearity required for the more complicated, vector-oriented modulation schemes characteristic of many WLL applications. These features combine to offer significant cost and performance advantages over alternative microwave solutions for this operating frequency, many of which have been based on discrete solutions using GaAs Power FETs.
S-Band GaAs MMIC Product Specifications: Part Number Frequency P1dB G1dB IDD TMD3438-1 3.4-3.8GHz 29.0dBm (min) 29.0dB (min) 500mA (typ)
Pricing and Availability:
Pricing for TMD3438-1 starts at $30 for a quantity of 1,000 pieces. Engineering samples are available now and volume production is scheduled to begin next month.
