Network ICE(TM), a leading provider of corporate and consumer security solutions, today announced that its flagship product BlackICE Defender was honored by PC World with a 2000 World Class Award for Best Security Software. The PC World award is the twelfth editorial award bestowed upon Network ICE for its industry-leading intrusion detection software. Network World, InfoWorld, PC Magazine and InternetWeek are among the notable computing publications that have recognized BlackICE technology for its unmatched intrusion detection and ease-of-use.

The World Class Award winners will be announced in the July 2000 issue of PC World and will be presented with trophies at an awards ceremony to be hosted during PC Expo in New York. Celebrating its 18th year, the respected World Class Awards honor the top hardware, software, and Web products in the computer industry. To select the best of the best, PC World's editors, testers, and contributors examined the entire gamut of products that have appeared in the magazine over the past year. Hundreds of products in more than 70 categories were judged on performance, value, consistency, and innovation. The magazine also polled readers to name the top companies for PC and software service and support.

"The World Class Award winners represent an all-star line-up of the year's best products," said Kevin McKean, editorial director of PC World. "Throughout the year, the editors scout outstanding players in hardware and software for our readers. These awards honor the finest the industry has to offer -- from solid veterans to stand-out rookies."

"It's an honor to receive recognition for BlackICE Defender among such distinguished security products," said Greg Gilliom, CEO, Network ICE. "In this extremely competitive and fast-moving industry, being awarded product of the year by PC World is an extraordinary achievement for our company and reinforces our goal to constantly innovate and meet our customers' needs."

BlackICE Defender is one of the first intrusion detection products to be made available to consumers, from family users to professional telecommuters. It has been recognized for its unique intrusion detection engine which scans all inbound and outbound traffic on the PC for suspicious activity. On finding an attempt to breach computer security, BlackICE seamlessly and silently leaps into action by blocking a hacker's access to a system, while leaving the user's legitimate traffic unaffected.
